Re: EU and our PM.
That is one problem that i see, if not enough turn out to vote the gov can call it anyway they like. To Get out you will need at leats 55% of the elctorate to vote and for about a 70% no to ensure you leave. I can see the gov using all manner of spin on the figures if it is a close result.

Re: EU and our PM.
First day back on the site after a months absence in Tenerife, have returned to roads falling apart in Devon, bridges waiting urgent repairs etc etc, after experiencing lovely wide smooth surfaced motorways, well laid out city/town roads, new bridges etc etc all built with EU money, wonder whose money they used, answers on a postcard only please, you have of course the usual three guesses! Tenerife of course whilst enjoying EU benefits is a non contributor, but is considered a 'foreign' country by our Customs annd Excise as far as cigarettes/booze and goods bought for returning visitors.
On another note the UK sinking if leaving the EC, what a load of bollo*ks, my own small company exported to 44 different countries only 15 of which were within the EU, so if a minnow can do it I'm sure the whales and sharks will when forced off their complacement backsides, when I was travelling for my business I was often asked why don't more British visit us, I could hardly answer because they were lazy barstewards

Re: EU and our PM.
I agree Ivan, if we pull out it will shake a few people, i am a present trying to get three quotes for a fence to be put up here, and at this time have contacted 5 fencing guys, only two have given a quote, one at £2400, the other at £1200, this for a 50ft long fence, the other 3 guys gave a time they would come, and just did not turn up. this is in an age where communication is simple, mobile phones etc, email. Seems they are making money too easily, very poor business, kt

Re: EU and our PM.
..i dont think we as a country of exporters are lazy ...perhaps once yes but in out family business at the moment we are importing large amounts of a product from spain and selling it to germany with a large mark up .....we are well ahead of the germans and the spanish in this field .....but the truth being we should be manufacturing ourselves ..........sadly i truly belive we can hold our own against most others in europe ....but if we come out ....the germans will have us by the balls and the french who cannever forgive us for the past will shut the door to europe......i also ask does the man in the street honestly expect to be better of at all ......if so cuckoo land is not far away ........people on the site say we are ruled by the germans and french now .......well brexit and find what being ruled by them truly means.....not a world leader has said it is beneficial to us to come out .......but still some folk go against all opinion of these wiser men than me......but that is my view and ...such is life.....regards cappy

Re: EU and our PM.
If they cut us out then we could shut off the Tourist trade to France Spain Italy Greece and Germany etc, That would cost them Billions, They would not dare to cut us out.
In the super markets most of the fruit and veg is from there, , strawberrys and grapes from spain etc etc. and wines etc etc just for starters,
No Cappy they will still want our money. regardless of if we are in or out.
Better than being a small province of a greater Germany./
Once we vote to stay in, they have us by the Goolies and then they will twist slowly and painfully. with 27 votes to one in the euro parliament we have No chance,
Cheers

Re: EU and our PM.
I've been looking at the 'Sailors' Society' magazine. 90% of everything comes by sea. So where does Europe fit into this ? 1½ million Merchant Seafarers bring us our goods.
By the way, I have gathered a group - which is still growing- and we have knitted 18 hats and 10 Neck warmers since January for the Sailors' Society . Going to print some more Knitting Patterns to keep up with the demand ! Easy knitting that can be done during mindless telly - or certain sports which cannot be mentioned........

Brenda

Re: EU and our PM.
Cappy your 155, you are one of a dying breed (not too soon mate!), you get off your backside and do something, alas not all are like you, I know people who run their own business as if it was a 9 - 5 job, because that is what they were used to, they don't want to go that extra mile, or even yard (or should that be metre) to give customer satisfaction. How many cafes do you go into where they have time restrictions on the type of food you can have, you can have two fried eggs on toast before 1100 but after that you can only have scrambled eggs on toast, just an example, of course there may be logistical difficulties in frying rather than scrambling that I am unaware of not being in the catering industry.

##i hear what you say brian but in answer to the ist part of you argument the government would stop tourists going to spain ...there is no way our people would stand for that......i would not obey a rule that forbid me to go to the continent......as for your second point ......if we did not take there fruit and veg ......what would we eat....... well farmers would just amass a fruit and veg mountain ...like the old butter and wine while we would have nothing to eat and they would just keep printing euros till as they do now ....our farmers in this country are producing so small an amount of our daily food we would i think be very hungary ...our farmers are subsidised to the hilt now.....and would demand great subsidies to change there crops......hence our food bills going up higher ......personally i think we as a nation of manufacturers and farmers we have gone down the tubes .....but we can hold our own and the world at bay ....with our financial know how .......to each his own brian ......and i listen to what you say ....but my mind is as stated....keep your enemies very very close .....remember the german is at your feet or your throat ......we have beat him twice but he will eff us if we have no say in his club.... all europe against us ......not good odds ....just my view....cappy

Re: EU and our PM.
All the average man in the street as far as I can see he wants, is our own laws legislated by our own Parliament, protect our own borders, this apparently has been almost signed away by devious politicians signing treatys without the permission of the general public. Trade is Trade and is not necessary to sign away a countries sovereignty to achieve such, if this is the case and it is, then we shouldn't be there in any case. Before the Middle east was interfered with they had peace of sorts, as soon as they are interfered with you get dissention amongst the lot and fighting for supremacy, in time the same will happen in Europe it is in mans nature. Great Britain gave up an Empire to suit changing times, now it seems everyone wants a chunk of that Empire. This so called Democracy is in the eye of the beholder and different countries have different ways of saying they are democratic. The EU is not Democratic for starters. so that is one down and there are many others punching the old line about democracy being the way to go. They should all put their own houses in order before quoting chapter and verse to others. When the present ruler of Syria is deposed and he will be at some stage, his replacement will be just a caricature of him and the same will continue to happen as is at present happening. All the talking in the world is not going to change mans way of thinking. JS
