Re: Seaforth Docks.
I drive over the Manchester Ship Canal several times a week, and have never seen one vessel of any kind using it, the Motorway I am on going over is full and congested with container lorries.
A massive deep sea canal just silting up. What a waste.

Re: Seaforth Docks.
hi jim
you are right about the elm house having no back to it but the girl a local to the elm house and was seen to go outside with the Norwegian seaman and whom the next morning was found dying nearby,( Liverpool echo )
the girl whom was a constant of the elm house and which was a notorious hostel for hosting and facilitating a good time for ( seamen ) and like many girls whom worked in the elm house they would not service locals ie like me,after closing time in the elm house the crowd used to go the the club in bankhall I cannot remember the name of it but the same working girls and Norwegian seaman could be seen regularly

Re: Seaforth Docks.
Thomas I think maybe you are talking after my time drinking in the Elm House,I don't realy recall any girls plying their trade there,as Charlie Hannah said he drank there and never seen a problem. The club you are talking about was the Norseman in Bankhall.

Re: Seaforth Docks.
When we were in Cunard in the Huskisson Dock or Sandon Basin. we always drank in the Boathouse and next door, Broken Nose Jacks. further up was Mable's, had many a good night there when working by,
Never saw any trouble. I copped off a few times with local girls, walked them home and just a good night kiss, nothing more than that. All good girls in those day.

Re: Seaforth Docks.
My worse one was the Barmaid from the Caradoc,
Lived in Elphinstone Street, not far from there, 1953, her house was a pile of rubble, in the back kitchen her bed was a door on four bricks,
No toilet, just a bucket she emptied down the grid. It had been very bomb damaged in the Blitz,
I was on watch at Midnight on the Empress of France , so I get into bed, [ door] and waited while she did her thing in the bucket, alongside, I thought, What the hell am I doing here, ? I got up and she says where are you going? I said , I have to be on watch soon , have to get back to the ship, Don't leave me, she wails, I climbed over piles of rubbish in her front room and legged it back to Gladstone and the ship.
Right off putting it was.

Hi Jim, Are you suggesting that I would be in the first pub down the gangway? ha ha.
No idea which ship I was on. Out of L,pool many times. As far as the question about the girl. She was back in 5 minutes and alone.
Also I was informed by someone that it was a regular occurrence.
