They used to have a Canadian one Brian but perhaps it has run it,s course I had a pal I shipped out with in 1960 I picked him up by chance on the Vindicatrix site we were both SOS on the Pilcomayo and the trip before that we both sailed together in the Sugar Refiner he crossed the bar back in September his name was John Farthing he was a good shipmate the only reason that we never went on to sail together after the Pilcomayo was that I was up for my EDH and he being a few months younger than me had to get some more sea time in such a shame as I say a good shipmate he went to Canada in the mid 60,s and just by chance I picked up with him again about 55 years later he used to phone me on occasion and we would often exchange email and yarn I know the Canadian branch of the Vindicatrix used to meet up in Ontario on a regular basis but as we know we are not getting any younger and if we lose someone who is a good organiser then things start to unwind mainly because it becomes harder to find someone who would want to take the reigns I have only ever been a supporter organising would not be me best regards Dave .

Hi Dave, I knew and met John Farthing a couple of years ago. He and I served in the same police force(OPP), but not together. When he retired he moved to Brockville Ontario. I was given his name by someone on this site that met for vindi getogethers in Toronto. We spent a day down on the St Lawrence a year or so back, and met John for coffee in Brockville. He mentioned he did not go to the Vindi meetings anymore due to the distance to Toronto and back. since then I have not seen any mention of vindi meetings listed for the Toronto area.
    Regards, stan

Thanks for that Stan as I said in my post a good shipmate I suppose his surname always stuck in my mind , and for me it was wonderful to come across him by chance about ten years back especially as we were able to pick our friendship up again after all those years, in fact it was he that reminded me that we not only sailed together in the Pilcomayo but my previous ship the Sugar Refiner we were also shipmates in as well , funny but when we we were in the Refiner we loaded in Trinidad and I can well remember on our many runs ashore when we were in the bars I was always having a go at the limbo dance which led to me being nicknamed limbo by my shipmates well the first time Johnny phoned me here in the UK the first thing he said to me was hello Limbo and more to the point even though we had been chatting by email for quite some time he had not mentioned in any of our conversations my long forgotten nickname it just goes to show what a small world it truly is thanks for your input Stan it,s nice to chat about an old shipmate from so long ago but never forgotten bless him regards to all hands Dave

    Hi Vernon
All At Sea was a web site started by a bloke who went to the Vindi, Can't remember his name but used to be a member of the Vindi group in Sydney. My mug shot is in that group you put on your post,as is Evan Lewis, I shall have to see if I can get the site up again.
    Cheers Des.
