The reason he never sang it was because he didn't know the words. Whilst it may seem a trivial matter about a tie, it is more about, honour, tradition and respect, respect to make an effort to respect those who gave so much, and whilst he may not like royalty he is quite willing to take the Queen's shilling (our taxes) as his parliamentary salary for the last 30 plus years which has always been far above the working mans whom he purports to be one of, but of course he has never worked as a working man, but on that I stand to be corrected.
I have just got back to listening to an hours talk given by the Captain of one of our Nuclear Submarines, about life on board and their weapons systems, the latter not in detail, as most is still classified. He stated that no one on board wanted to turn the key, lift the lid and press the button, but it would be foolish to give up the one weapons system which is a deterrent to even the most powerful countries in the world that would comtemplate attacking the UK, especially in these uncertain times when Russia and China are building ever larger and more sophisticated weapons, and the spectre of North Korea doing the same. He says that Russia has some of the fastest submarines in the world, above and below water fortunately they are also noisiest and easier to track, whilst we have the quietest and why would anyone (Corbyn/Sturgen etc) want to give that up advantage. When the Nuclear Subs go out on 90 day patrol s, only six people know where their sphere of operation is, The Prime Minister, The Admiral of the fleet and four officers on board (the key holders). They are not allowed to make one transmission during the whole patrol, so if they sank on day two, no one would know for another 90 days when they would be classed as overdue. They can receive messages but cannot acknowledge them, one of the most interesting hours I have ever spent.

Re: Democracy
I was not impressed by his performance in Question Time on TV.
He looked an old man who maybe should be in the over 60s Club having a cup of tea instead of playing Politics.
even tho` I am 14 years older than he is.
I was expecting a more robust Question Time.
.
I was also surprised at the SNP guy who wanted Faslane shut down. A few thousand Scottish jobs would also go including the surrounding areas who benefit from the salaries earned there.
He was also whinging about Scottish independence. I would give it to them, their oil is now almost worthless, less than half of what it was last year.
So with no money money for Faslane, not a lot for oil and so not a lot going for them. and if the rest of UK get out and become independent of the EU then Scotland would become a Foreign Country.
I sometimes despair at the Intelligence of some Politicians.

Re: Democracy
What a complete and utter load of boll..ks I have been reading the last two days. He didn't wear a tie, he didn't sing. Corbyn is not in a fashion parade and it is not compulsory to sing a hymn of allegiance to the Queen. For years we have said politicians all look the same and sound the same, now along come's a man who is different, he doesn't toe the party line and he doesn't answer questions with quotes prepared by spin doctors or advisers. An honest and sincere gentleman so rare in politics today even the Tory's in Parliament admire him.
Today he was under so much pressure with the right wing press hoping he would fall on his face for tomorrows headline, well he didn't, the usual rabble were quiet and Dave Flashman had to play the weekly game by his rules.

Re: Democracy
Hi Louis
I think the criticism was more because of the occasion.
It was a Memorial Service for the Dead of the RAF who won the Battle of Britain. and there is a certain code of conduct for Memorial Services for Dead Heroes, there is one fact, he will never be a Hero like those who sacrificed their all so he can have the freedom to do and say what he does.
The National Anthem is not a song for the Queen, it is just the National Anthem. Every country on the Planet has one and his title is "Leader of Her Majesty's Official Opposition" and as such he should act accordingly, If he doesn't like it, he does not have to do the job. Someone else could do it.
As in most Clubs, you have to obey the Rules, so being a member of the Parliamentary Club he does just that or get out. simple.
I still think he just looked an old man with no charisma.

Re: Democracy
The Scots have the rousing anthem Flower of Scotland that all can stand and sing no matter what their thoughts are on monarchy. This is what we need to bring all together. How do you feel about singing God Save the King when Charles takes the throne with Queen Camilla ?

I don't care who is on the throne, it's our anthem of our country and we should respect that, a lot of men died to save the flag, anthem and country, and this obviously means little to you. However these men died so that you could have the free speech to degenarate what they died for, so feel free to show your true colours.

Re: Democracy
All these people who are up in arms about Corbyn not singing the National Anthem I bet when they went to the cinema at the end when the Queen came on they were out of the cinema like a two bob rocket. Most started leaving when the credits started rolling on the picture that just finished, very disrespectful one was supposed to stand and sing God Save The Queen.
Regards.

Re: Democracy
#119 Hear what you are saying Jim, but we were not public figures representing our Country in the public and worldwide eye and if you are the representative of all the people who are in your party you have a duty to represent them with respect. Just my view.
