    Default British Bar Lyttelton.South Island.N.Z.

Well well.Havnt heard of that place in a long time.I missed a ship in that port (not on purpose) So myself and another A.B. with the Sparks, went back to the British Bar,skint! The then owner( 1966)put us up for the night, guys in the bar had a whip round.Next day we got bus to Christchurch, then train down to Invercargill then bus to Bluff,to rejoin ship M.V.Surrey.Federal boat.2 weeks later we sent money back to British Bar.I will never ever forget there kindness and generosity to help us out.as they say in Kiwi lingo! Bloody marvelous mate.Good Luck, and thanks for your post.Bill Seddon.

was the mid sixties in Lyttleton. British Hotel three ships, A Port boat A star boat and a Federal boat all due to sail at the same time. and all the lads were in the British
with different ideas! the situation got quite heated, local constabulary were called, it was on for young and old.Now. the hotel is on a corner and on a steep hill. as fast as the bottom bar was cleared the boys "borrowed" a convienient window cleaners ladder propped ii up around the corner and proceed to climb the ladder into the upstairs window and then get back to the downstairs bar! thats when the coppers brought in the dogs. Gamechanger.Eventually we were all escorted to our ships and duly sailed ünder protest"!Those were the days!
