hi------- joined mn 1955----- first trip moss hutchinson boat 'armana'----- lost count of the rest. final voyage1969 queen elizabeth (1) after being shanghied to southampton from my home port of liverpool. anyone left alive who might have trod the same path?

Well possibly we may have met who knows,as i was wuth the UCL in 1958 and we frequented the Juniper Berry Pub which i am sure you may recall!
Lots of chaps from all Lines used to pop in there and have a few Bevvies.

Also the old Checkpoint nearly opposite the JP ,where many used to go downstairs fot a Coffe and chat up the lovely Chics.

There were many Lads those days,cannot remember too many names! The old Grey matter is getting greater haaha!
You may have also stayed at the old Jellico Seamans Hostel a few times ?

Made some really good friends with quite a few Scousers them days,that was funny as i was then sort of a Mouche (but came from South Africa) but wasnt actually taken as a Mouche! (is that correct spelling) Forgotten LOL!

Soton was a great place then! As was Liverpool!

Anyway John ,hope you will have a good stay here with us old Geezers and hopefully find a few of your good oldtime Friends!

hi-----yes i did frequent one or two of the places you mentioned, above and below bar, the horse and groom was sometimes worth a visit, although it was strictly 'backs against the wall' in there!! i seem to also recall a restaurant called (i think) german edies where she cut off diners ties halfway through the meal and displayed them hanging from the ceiling. happy daze j

The word I think you were searching for in thread 3 was MUSH. A resident of Southampton.
Like you rightly said Scouses were Liverpudlians, South Africans were Yarpys for some reason,Jordies of course from Tyneside,Cockneys from London and there were others in regular use.
