Sadly we are not living in the age of Gunboat diplomacy as in the days of yore, when our RN was the finest Navy in the world. We dont have a real Merchant Navy as when I served in the 50's & 60's either, not a lot that can be done about either, except to cry into our glasses of rum, and reminisce about runs ashore and bad feeders.
Having served on the first Wave Ruler in the first Icelandic cod war, we did what the Admiralty told us thats was ever thus, and I suppose that still rules today.

Political correctness prevents R.L.T. most excellent idea from happening. Report in our paper yesterday the husband and wife currently held as hostages have been separated and te husband was allowed to may a call to the U.K. foriegn offcie saying he expected to be excecuted in three days if the demands of the pirates are not met.

Is the world awaiting for the usual to go in and intervene? as in the yanks the brits or any one else with any morals or bottle? and i dont post this lightly? where is the rest of the {NATO} coalition i wonder what was NATO set up for at times,i am sick to the teeth of other countries taking a back seat in these horrors going on in the world. We cant sort the world out it takes a government with full commitment to go in and sort this, Only hope some one will pick there conscience and take this problem on board i saw an interview with the british couple who have nothing and have been seperated awaiting some help from someone i am bewilded ted.

On the early morning news again today. The husband is still alive and has made another plea for the government to do something. It would appear the pirates are allowing him to make regular appeals, as long as he is alive they have the chance of getting the ransom. Kill them and they get nothing, but sadly the world powers as R.L.T. says will sit back and do nothing.

    Hi Red lead.
There is an election coming up in Britain, and if that couple are still in strife, whoever loses will blame the other for procrastinating,. Brown will be calling on the new Govt to do something, having done nothing himself. if he wins again the opposition will be doing the same, in the meantime no one does a thing.
As for that Nato it's just a figment of someones imagination, if there's a war France for one will increase it's white flag factories, the Belgium Govt will go on holidays, Germany will go for anyone in sight, and it will be left for the poor Poms to set it right again.
One thing Terr, the snow has gone.
    Cheers Des

We are getting a lot of film here of both the hostages. They are being examined by a Medical Practitioner. Mr. Chandler seems to be coping but Mrs Chandler is very frail and her speech is poor. It is evident she is not well and is unlikely to have much medical care. She is living in the bush under plastic sheeting and being moved regularly. She could die in that environment. Not nice not nice at all.
It would seem some organisation outside GovUK may be allowed to negotiate, it was mentioned at lunchtime but no further details.

    regards
    jimmy

    Hi Terry.
Those poor people were over 1,000 miles off the coast when they were caught. The Somalis have mother ships that range far and wide. I think a search and destroy mission is called for. Never mind the wringing hands brigade, they'd be the first to scream if caught.
