Thought these floating palaces were nearly 100% fire proof for small accomodation fires , I spent half a day with the LNG people on the quayside in Newcastle In 1963 doing a crash course on sprinkler systems on passenger vessels before facing the examiner in orals, it was the time of that burning liner off the Canaries . After going through all the rigmarole of doing this and doing that , he said I congratulate you on being super man , but your place is on the bridge and you delegate , however he did pass me .And when I faced my own personal inferno later in life I remembered what he said , only one thing was amiss however , by that time there was no one to delegate to. However these liners are supposed to be next to foolproof to accomodation fires due to all the past experiences of similar happenings years ago. JS.

Fair point, but I did sea a ferry tied up which may have rendered assistance, unless she is also laid-up herself, but I know there were harbour tugs in Corfu, but eh! oh! we can only hope.

As Cappy posted, fire is reported to have started in one of the lifeboats, no sprinklers I external areas.

From travel weekly. co. uk, only damage was to the lifeboats, no internal damage suffered.

Maybe they were doing a fuel top up on Lifeboat engines sitting having a crafty ciggie and holy merde boom and away it went.

In what they nowadays call "warm lay up". Only 50 crew on board.

Cruise ship such as this one have more fire sprinklers on board than you could poke a stick at.
They do work as one clown discovered.
Took off his suit, put it on a hanger and hung it from the sprinkler.

In the night the ship rolled, the sprinkler went off as the hanger broke the glass.
Complete with wet suit put off the ship next day for wilfull damage to the ship.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
