Thought these floating palaces were nearly 100% fire proof for small accomodation fires , I spent half a day with the LNG people on the quayside in Newcastle In 1963 doing a crash course on sprinkler systems on passenger vessels before facing the examiner in orals, it was the time of that burning liner off the Canaries . After going through all the rigmarole of doing this and doing that , he said I congratulate you on being super man , but your place is on the bridge and you delegate , however he did pass me .And when I faced my own personal inferno later in life I remembered what he said , only one thing was amiss however , by that time there was no one to delegate to. However these liners are supposed to be next to foolproof to accomodation fires due to all the past experiences of similar happenings years ago. JS.
