Re: Tony Blair
Also, I think that people who like Europe should go and live in Europe, then they will be happy with their European friends,
and the people who want to be British and live in Britain will also be happy with our British friends. . Simple.
I also think that there should NOT be any dual passports. If you leave Britain to live permanently in another country give up the British Passport and get that adopted country`s passport. Also if anyone lives in another country they should Not have the vote.,
as an example, that runner, Mo Farrar, he has a Somali Passport, a British passport BUT he and his family have lived in the USA for over six years. What's all that about, is he British , Somali or an American??? He would also be allowed to vote in UK if he has kept an address here.
Today I am a miserable old git, so there.

Re: Tony Blair
Just wonder if you are aware that the CEO of the RNLI an excellent charity? pays it's CEO Vice Admiral Paul Boissier RN retd £130,000 a year, I wonder when the last time he went out on a shout!!!
During Tony Blair's Sky news interview he was asked if he was going to seek re-election or start a new political party, he smiled and said no. He also said that the media rightly or wrongly have painted him such a way that why would he bother, or words to that effect.
I am only playing devils advocate here personally I have no time for any politicians as they all have their snouts in the trough. The only one I could honestly say is straight and genuinely cares is perhaps the Labour MP Frank Field, he does amazing work with sitting on cross party committees and at least he DID have the Balls to tell Tony Blair to shove his Cabinet post were the sun don't shine.
It is good to have back and forth points of view. I really do hope I have not upset or offended anyone here.

Captain re #31 In general I agree, but I feel like a little fun.
"...I think that people who like Europe should go and live in Europe, then they will be happy with their European friends,..."
I do believe I've read that 3 million Brits have retired and moved to Europe, particularly the Southern region, primarily for the weather. I further believe at least one member who posts resides in Spain. I'm sure the vast majority choose to live there, in addition to the weather, to stretch their pension check: no winter clothing, cheap wine, cheaper cost of living in general. I would bet the majority do not bad mouth Britain and certainly would not want to be Spanish, Greek, or what ever else. British folks overseas I've met have been just like yanks, fiercely patriotic.
"...and the people who want to be British and live in Britain will also be happy with our British friends...."
Better watch that one Captain, there are a lot of Poles and Eastern Europeans wandering around Britain and I bet they prefer your "green and pleasant land."
"...I also think that there should NOT be any dual passports. If you leave Britain to live permanently in another country give up the British Passport and get that adopted country`s passport. Also if anyone lives in another country they should Not have the vote.,..."
Totally agree. Even though my best friend has lived in the States the same as me, fifty-five years and he's still a Brit...Love it or leave it!
"...as an example, that runner, Mo Farrar, he has a Somali Passport, a British passport BUT he and his family have lived in the USA for over six years. What's all that about, is he British , Somali or an American???"
You have to live in the States for seven years before you can apply to become a US citizen.
3 Ways to Become a UK Citizen - wikiHow
Live in the UK for at least 5 years after applying for citizenship.
If you're married or a civil partner of a British citizen, you only have to live in the UK for 3 years.
If you your spouse or civil partner is working in the service of the government overseas, you may not need to meet the residency requirement.
"...Today I am a miserable old git, so there."
Totally disagree Captain. You are no more "a miserable old git" than I am an augmentative old barsteward.
P.S. Under the current Executive order (awaiting to be clarified by he who shouldn't be mentioned), Mo Farrah cannot leave the US, assuming he wants to come back,; he's from Somalia even though he has a British passport.

Jim mate, I know you are not bothered, neither am I, I was only clarifying a situation about a Limited Company and that it doesn't preclude it being used for charity purposes, my #30 had no other intent

Re: Tony Blair
On a recent trip to the United States, Tony Blair, ex PM of the UK, addressed a major gathering of Native American Indians.
He spoke for almost an hour on his plans for a Carbon Trading Tax for the UK and Europe. At the conclusion of his speech, the crowd presented him with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name- Walking Eagle.
A very chuffed Tony, proudly clutching his plaque then departed in his motorcade, smiling and waving to the crowd. A news reporter later asked one of the Indians how they came to select the new name given to Tony Blair.
They explained that Walking Eagle is the name given to a bird so full of s... that it can no longer fly.
FOURO.
