    Default British & Commonwealth Shipping

By 1978 B&C had run down its shipping interest considerably. Cayzer Irvine & Co. Ltd. had given up its management of ships. Cayzer Irvine Shipping had taken over, Cayzer Irvine Shipping was Turnbull Martin rebranded.
A few of the King Line Bulkers had been sold, a few Clan Line ships were left and two new tankers were due to come on stream in 1979.
B&C at one time at held 20% shareholding in Common Bros, this must have been reduced to 16%.
In 1978 B&C bought another 17.5% shareholding in Commons breaking their ownership to just over 33%.
Under the stock exchange 29% ownership can trigger a takeover bid, which B&C did, they offered t buy out the remaining shares. The offer lapsed due to lack of interest by Common Bros. shareholders.
