Re: Proud to be British
Pie, Eels and Mash, 2019 in Greenwich south London saw a shop that still does that.
Jellied eels, great stuff very popular years ago after a night in the pub,
But as to eating, some years ago in the Rissole (RSL) club in NSW border they had the Steak Challenge.
This was a 12 Kilo steak cooked to your liking, the challenge being could you eat it all at $30 a pop.
Give it a go I thought.
Saw the chef and told him how I wanted it cooked, trim the fat and gristle, hot griddle as hot as you can and just five seconds each side.
He looked at me and said, 'there are some live ones outside'
But he did as I asked and up came the steak, lovely grub and got into it.
I was about three quarters through when I noticed a couple of staff watching me, when I took the last mouthfull they clapped and gave me a beer.
Apparently I was the first guy to eat it all, most never did or got some one else to help.
Not in the menu any more though,

Happy daze John in Oz.

The Jellied Eel started life in Manze’s pie and mash shop on Walthamstow Market.

Mind you, it did make wonder about other stuff when I found half a chicken head in my dinner (top half including beak eyes and comb).
Some advice needs a health warning: Steak tartare or other raw meat dishes such as carpaccio should never be consumed by anyone with a compromised immune system. There's no way to guarantee the safety of rare meat. Raw beef can definitely be harmful if it's not quality beef. Raw meat may contain harmful bacteria including Salmonella, Listeria, Campylobacter and E. coli that can cause food poisoning. https://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au...at-safe-eating

Not much of a meat lover but do insist it is fully dead before eating, what a shock if it hopped off the plate when a fork was first inserted......what a vision can't stop laughing myself now. LOL
#43 That's horrible!!!!!
Reminds me of the movie: Dead Meat - A mutated strain of mad cow disease infects the Irish countryside, turning people into ravenous, flesh-eating zombies. Caught amid this chaos are a young Spanish tourist and the local gravedigger. Together, this unlikely duo must fight for survival or become part of the Zombie Fest. The gravedigger is also furnished with a deadly shovel, presumably used for digging graves and/or slaying zombies, dragons and other mythilogical creatures.

Re: Proud to be British
Biggest steak I ever had was in a pub in Broken Hill, the plate was an extra large dinner plate and this steak hung over both ends, well cooked, as I liked it, and with a good side plate of chips it has never been surpassed by any other steak.
