Pie, Eels and Mash, 2019 in Greenwich south London saw a shop that still does that.

But as to eating, some years ago in the Rissole (RSL) club in NSW border they had the Steak Challenge.
This was a 12 Kilo steak cooked to your liking, the challenge being could you eat it all at $30 a pop.
Give it a go I thought.
Saw the chef and told him how I wanted it cooked, trim the fat and gristle, hot griddle as hot as you can and just five seconds each side.
He looked at me and said, 'there are some live ones outside'
But he did as I asked and up came the steak, lovely grub and got into it.
I was about three quarters through when I noticed a couple of staff watching me, when I took the last mouthfull they clapped and gave me a beer.
Apparently I was the first guy to eat it all, most never did or got some one else to help.
Not in the menu any more though,
