Re: Proud to be British
Des, broccoli stalks at home would be up to the individual family but,
in any dining situation, why would anyone pay for stalks? They do
make a good soup but, not as a part of any other dish.

Victoria, many food items are good for you eaten raw.
I learned to like raw Tripe that had ben pickled and raw Liver, (lambs Fry) all very tasty.
But of course Steak Tartare is still the very best.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Proud to be British
My wife washes all fruit and veg before using, which we buy from the farm shops, and usually IOW produce. Her argument is they are picking these in the fields, piddling where they are no hand wash etc. I should be careful Lewis, you could stop us all eating Irish spuds, lol, kt

Re: Proud to be British
Soup is the best bet for stalks lest a person has a very good digestive system, particularly
in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). People with gastrointestinal conditions may
also find that too much broccoli causes gas or other irritations.

Re: Proud to be British
Had to eat Tripe during the war, only once for me. But if you want a good thing to eat try, Cabbage stalks, another wartime food, strip the outside off and eat the inside, after washing of course Lewis, unless you were a kid over in the allotment, we would also dig up what we called ground nuts, the bulb of a wild flower, lovely.

Missing the taste of traditional pie, mash and liquor?

Commonly called liquor sauce or simply liquor, traditionally made using the water kept from
the preparation of the stewed eels. However, many shops no longer use stewed eel water in their parsley liquor.
