Re: missing sub
recovery will cost a fortune , bt it could be treated as an exercise for the RN or the USN ,

Re: missing sub
if a chest is 40 inch around and twenty inch deep at 10 to/sq inch, in an imploson that would put 8000 ton force on your chest , I cannot imagine that , may they rest in peace

I am Joseph, I still cannot sleep at night, I lie awake all night thinking about those containers rusting away.
It was amazing what was dumped into the sea in those days,
Millions of tons of Nuclear waste was dumped, and millions of tons of ammunition from WW2 was dumped around our coasts, and a lot of pollution from all that.
In the 50s on Tankers we dumped all the crude oil sludge and tank washings into the sea world wide, polluting the sea and sea bed, no one cared in those day. A bit different today. But it does still go on with a lot of tankers. dumping tank washings illegally as they have to pay to pump it ashore before loading a tanker,
When I was a Sea Cadet, an Instructor told us that when he was a Diver in the Royal Navy in WW2 Diver went down too deep and his body was all crushed into his diving helmet. due to the water pressure. Do not know if that was true or not,
But bodies that are buried at sea and are weighted down sufficiently at those depths the body would be totally crushed.

Re: missing sub
#75...Rob thought I mentioned costings. In 1979 the charter rate of the vessel I was on which today both vessel and costing would be out of date, was 10000 pounds a day and all fuel and stores and damages paid by the MOD. This was for 365 days of the year. As regards the RN they would have to bring in specialised vessels from commercial companies with civilians manning them. The costing would as you say be huge. So hope the chancellor of the Argentine has deep pockets s, which I very much doubt, although it would raise public opinion of them if they were seen to move in that direction. JWS

Re: missing sub
Apparently, Russia has joined the search for Argentina's missing submarine
and is expected to deploy a remote-controlled device to trawl the sea on Saturday.
