Very sad John worked with navy clearance divers for a number of years. They relied on total team work. Were very committed seamen. JWS.

Northsea saturation Diving when I worked on Supply vessels John was still in its infancy, it was very highly payed and with big money comes the risks. They were paid literally by the minute in the saturation chambers and most only worked at most two months of the year before returning to their homes in Spain or wherever. Navy divers were more controlled and although were paid good money, no where near the civilian divers. However there was always naval surgeons in attendance on diving operations. I don’t know about the civilian side of it. The team we had some of them were the first wave on to the beaches long before the troops landed in the Falklands closely followed by several squads of Ghurkas I was told by some who were there. The gases used were mainly helium and oxygen and others I wouldn’t have a clue about. Having 500 feet of water on top of my head never appealed to me. Cheers JS

Its all gone very quiet. I think we can all pretty much assume that she is gone, may her crew rest in peace - God Bless them.

I would have thought that in this day and age with the equipment that the searchers have, that they would have found the wreckage by now. I can only think that it must be very deep.

I don't know John, I was of the impression they only had three including the one missing. Seawater entering the snorkel is said to have caused the trouble in the first place, shorting a battery. So its said, the battery was isolated and they proceeded on the ones left. Now batteries strike the fear of hell in me after I once witnessed a car battery explode. Acid, and lumps of battery pack flying everywhere as a result of an overcharge with the wrong battery charger. If one has exploded in the sub, I would have thought it would have caused total devastation if the exploding car battery was anything to go by, as sub batteries are a hellava lot bigger than a car battery. Its a sad time and reminds us of what submariners go through, very brave men and women indeed.
