#477. Des I sailed with a master when I was mate in 1968 he was an ex master out of I believe Hogarths or the company that Lyles took over , he was made redundant from same. He thought he was first on the list because he put a ship aground coming out of Cairns. Anyhow I am more inclined to believe a story he told me of coming away from Steamer Point one time, pilot on board , boatmen standing by, when trouble erupted ashore in Aden and they all departed the ship. He was a fiery little Scotsman this skipper from Glasgow and have a strong feeling it was the Gorbals , shouts to the mate on the forecastle chop the last headline she was singled up to , went full ahead to clear the port and sank the pilot boat in the process ,just carried on regardless , said he daresant ever go back to Aden. Masters name was Peter Turnbull if not dead today would be too old to worry about it , someone may of known him. JS
it used to be a single buoy mooring or a dolphin in the harbour you used to tie up to headlines only if remember right. JS

Tomorrow, and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day, to the last sylable of recorded time, and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death, out, out brief candle, life is but a stage and every one a plyer who struts and frets his hour and then is heard no more.
Russia is no different from many countries when it comes to the people.
Most just want to live a peaceful life in harmony with others.
The major cities such as Moscow and t. Petersburg are such, but once into the country regions there is a very different picture to be seen.
Life can be tough with poor living conditions and only just enough food for them.

Re: Ukraine
John Daze Yr.#480.Oh you little tinker you--quoting bardish prose and soliloquys from Macbeth ,and bringing a touch of class aboard this vessel!
And how appropriate -how life goes on regardless , ad nauseam etc-and is,and forever will be- meaningless.
And then there is-- 'Those who cannot remember the mistakes of the past are condemned to repeat them' ,by one George Santayana,a Harvard professor of philosophy, not as some think by a more well-known man of words like Plato,or Henry Ford or perhaps Oscar Wilde, but definitely not by Carlos Santana,a close surname, of ♫ Black Magic Woman'♫ fame..... I'm off to the resident's lounge now to annoy them, strumming my air guitar to Santana's Greatest Hits . Damn, here comes matron Tessa Tyrant again.
Talking about air guitars (were we?) I'm currently liking a Beautiful South track entitled 'Losing Things' but have no idea what it means..

Have a nice day(or night )all. Give me a call twenty minutes before the pilot station-not after.

Re #476.
John, I find that anyone who was a Private soldier in the British army in 1940 and demobbed in 1946 as a full Colonel hard to believe.

Re: Ukraine
Well Fouro if you are in to searching people’s past my knowledge of his past .. His name was Alexander Cooper he was born in India to my knowledge as his father was in government service , he was educated in public boarding schools in England .he served for various airlines as said , had an adopted son of a Singaporean birthright who finished up as the one if not the top leader of their defence forces. Alex’s father was at one time just prior to the war was the equivilant of the Governor General of Singapore .This info.did not come from him but a member from this site who was also well known in Singapore think he passed away recently Templemaine or something similar. Wartime commissions were not too rare. JS. Richard Quartermaine he sent me an old newspaper photo of his father which I passed on to someone else who appreciated it for commemorative purposes JS

Re: Ukraine
Oh Graham #481,
There is a tide in the affairs of man which taken at the flood leads on to fortune.
Omitted all the voyages of their lives is bound in shallows and in misery,
On such a tide are we now afloat and we must take the tide or lose the venture.
Henry V part one.
But very true of the world today, take your chances or be lost for ever in the mire and mists that now pervade the earth,

Well you can always give one long blast on the whistle at intervals of not more than 2 minutes , or just hit a handy iceberg and disappear into oblivion. Where your name may live forever. JS

#484 O Jonathan of Happiness Stupour of Delight in Antipodean climes.
Thou astoundeth us with thy surfeit of Bardic prose and personally maketh me creameth myself in unadulterated pleasure at thy soliloquy concerning the travails of our Agincourt king, Hal the Fifth, part one. Shriek! Forsooth ! So be it! I shall now slip from this mortal coil and die a happy subject when my time cometh.... !Fencers.gif

Hi John. In 2015 my niece and her husband took a year out to travel around the world on their Triumph M/C's. Russia was part of the route, the ordinary Russian people made them most welcome and were happy to assist. They sent a blog of their travels back from time to time I hope this is the one.
P.S. The only trouble they had was a laptop stolen in Panama.
