Way back in the 70's there was a 'gunk' system with Avon tyres, not sure if it still exists. Most cars here in Oz come at least with a get you home spare, and that is all they will do. But the majority of cars here come with a normal spare, you would need it with the distances here between towns in some parts. But many of the SUV brigade have the spare underneath, great fun in the rain on a dark night trying to get that out.
