I was young and go get em in those days Cappy not a day over 31. Used to stay in periods off duty in the Turf Hotel right opposite the racecourse in Port Of Spain. My do at the British Consulate caused the snobbish English residents of that fair city at the time to take me off their invitation lists, not that I was ever on them. Never mind was working for the mighty yankee dollar so was laughing all the way to the bank. With or without a passport. ##reminds me of a holiday many years ago in malta .....pat and i made friends with a fleet air arm pilot and his wife we were having a ball.....his fatherwho lived in malta was a leutenant commander in the RN RETIRED was having a cocktail party and a load of bigwigs had been invited.....the PM dom mintoff was there ....it was not my cup of tea ...but he kept asking us to go as theparty would be boring ......any way one of the guests was lord southampton.....as is the case people kept moving round and talking on boring subjects ie libya at that time etc .....the waiters were flying round with bottles of champers or anything you required ......my buddy and our wives were bored to death .....anyway along comes the next group rear admiral so and so and the commander in chief medi fleet ......to talk to cappy and co ....this short chap stuck his hand out and said in a really posh accent .....sawthampton......me with a full cargo of champaign.....with cognac chasers.......unaware that they dont say lord before there name ...replied south shields whereupon.....his lordship stated arghh there are two of us here.....which didnt go down to well as he had what appeared to be ....lost his roll of carpet....i must say after we left the party to go into sliema we never laughed so much .......great memories ........as a matter of fact the fleet ayr arm man hated helcopters ...not reliable .....and preffered fixed wing aircraft....regards cappy

Ivan, Surly you can see the light hearted side to this, They new exactly which boxes to open, Probably with the knowledge that most of the contents are lets say illegitimate gains, It will be interesting to see who comes forward to claim possibly very expensive jewels documented in robbery's around the globe. They could have some explaining to do more so than the robbers themselves, As Marian says the police have some very doggy questions as to why they never responded to the alarms they new some thing was up yet never responded £200,000,000, I bet my bottom dollar a movie will come out of this Heist. It seems from the news that a large ammount of the goodies have been seized in the house raids of the subjects. One has been named as a plumber, and his father, KT

I don't think for one minute that the Police were involved in the burglary because thats what it is, a burglary, but I am willing to bet that within 24 hours of it being reported some detective in the Met. knew the name of at least one or more of the offenders involved. This will not come out in the eventual trial either.

Terry, what light hearted side, no one has won, neither the crooks, police or victims, why must we assume just because the victims had safe deposit boxes that the contents were ill-gotten gains. How do we know no one has come forward to claim anything, has a list been published somewhere, from what I recall of the news coverage the day it was discovered there were scores of people in the street outside the vaults wanting to know if their boxes had been breached. Surely they wouldn't be foolish enough to parade themselves if they had ill gotten gains, just my view. No doubt a film or a book will appear but cannot see how they could be a success when the operation has turned into a miserable failure by the miscreants being caught so soon after the event. Eh! but each to his own

It certainly showed the weakness in the firms security measures, some one always knows a short cut somewhere. The story from Albany prison on The Island was that the prison authority wanted their security measures tested, and so called in the SAS, apparently they were out in 24 hrs. They used spoons with the handles bent over, and the bowl of the spoon as a handhold, and scaled the wire fence, ingenuity at its best, KT
