I was a galley rat, the only pilot I knew was the wee flame that told me the stove was lit, and if it was, I think there was a red light. Strangely though I have seen a red light over doors, It must be to guide deckhands towards, because they where always up dark alleys, and catering would be too scared to venture off the main streets after museums and the movies closed.

It was a subtle joke Rodney. Both ships are supposed to alter course to starboard. The one not wanting to see the red sidelight would of gone to port to avoid showing red and show his green, Who would of been the cause of the collision, nothing to do with pilots, just the ordinary practice of seamen.
