Yes Jim i do follow the Bootle forum keeps me up to date with what's going on i have read Ian's post he does a good job,has put some really good interesting post up!That was a very nice gesture with your lad jim.I also was wound up in the book Unbroken it was a good read.Getting back to Bootle forum Jim when i first went on it a number of years back i found a mate of mine i hadn't seen since i was a kid about 13 or 14 years old now we correspond often i have also come accross a few more i knew going back to my youthful years. Never knew them by name Terry but seen them on the Lane many time on the trips i did home they were just kids when i saw them about that age they are in these pics.You put on here.

Hi Terry,The only one of the Porters i knew quite well was Steve the others of the family i only knew to say hi to they were a big family the one i really knew she was a good laugh was May Porter a smashing woman to have a chat and a laugh with,she wouldn't take any back chat off any one a good woman. Mick Magugan,sounds familier i knew both the Quad twins and also new they were on the docks,Did Harold Kinsella have a brother named Tony who was at sea i new a Tony Kinsella.Thats about the only ones i reconise there. Jimmy has the Peter i am on about Terry Read his post he explains it well, i never knew Peter was in the army untill i read Jimmy's post but he has the Peter i'm on about one good guy,him and his mate,Hughie, i met over in NZ. many years ago.A pair of charecters, a few beers and they were comediums to listen to. Cheers.

Hi Rob,
GPs are just that, General Practitioners. not specialists in any field, I have the same problem with my GPs.
Alway demand to see the Consultant in that particuilar field.
Unfortunately the cost of a Consultant is paid for by the GPs Budget. and so they are reluctant to send you to one.
It is your right to demand one and at the hospital of your choice..

Just about the opposite here in Oz Brian, we are if anything overserviced in this manner most GP will send you to see a specialist for most complaints at a very early stage

I sailed on the Dunedin Star in 1956, I wrote the story of the voyage to the South African and Australian coast on it. Good trip.it is in Seafaring Stories thread in the Swinging the Lead forum.
Thanks for the photo Jim I have saved it to my collection.
I also sailed on the Raphael in 1954 and the Romney in 1956.

Hi Jim
That photo has disapeared, I think it is because of copyrite.
The Dunedin Star was built as The BOLTON CASTLE, oddly enough the name of a pub I sometimes drink in, when it was built Nat Lofthouse was the first manager, It was bought on the stocks by Blue Star and became the Dunedin Star,in 1950.
I sailed on her in 1956, and in 1968 it was renamed Roland,
Blue Star and Lamport and Holts were always swapping ships and renaming them, they were associated under the Vesty ownership.

Here is me white lead and tallowing the span wire between the two samson oposts at No 4 hatch and no safetety net.
