Re: High speed train set
I make a monthly donation to Medicine Frontier, the reason being that any catastrophe in the world, they always seem to be there first, of course i cannot say they get every penny of my money, but i hope. I did do other charities as well, but stopped them when i started getting phone calls asking for an increase, but when i asked the lady on the phone ,was she getting any cut on increase i made, i was not answered plainly, and so i told her i was stopping my donation forthwith, KT

Re: High speed train set
I was in limbo in 1974 and did a trip on the Exmoor which was then managed by anchor line of Glasgow. We were one of these so called food aid ships which took flour and other food commodities to the Red Sea ports. She was a 12000 deadweight ship and was chocablock. One hold consisted totally of alcohol, in supposedly countries that were alcohol free, certainly makes one wonder. I would not give a penny to any foreign charity unless I actually handed it over to the recipient. After the Tsumanis of some years ago a sum of money in the region of 50,000 plus dollars was raised by the W.A. freemasons. This money was actually carried by members to Malaya and handed over to the masonic brethren of that country who built I believe 5 schools, there were no middlemen. Every dollar went where it was meant to go. Cheers John Sabourn

Re: High speed train set
There are a couple of reasons whay govs give money to some of our 'third world' cousins.
Firstly it gievs them, in their opinion, a moral edge over the rest of us and they get brownie points from the 'do gooders' in society so more votes for them.
Secondly as said by a number of members much of the money goes to buy arms, where else would they get it none of them work according to TV images. With weapons they can kill oneanother thus keeping them away from those in the West.
Am I being a bit cynical, no just telling it as I see it.

In April this Year (2013) Haiti -- A new report on American aid to Haiti in the wake of that country's devastating earthquake finds much of the money went to U.S.-based companies and organizations.
The Center for Economic and Policy Research analyzed the $1.15 billion pledged after the January 2010 quake and found that the "vast majority" of the money it could follow went straight to U.S. companies or organizations, more than half in the Washington area alone.
a staggering 1% went into Haitian economy , makes you think do we do that , I expect that we don't ...

Something similar on a smaller scale... I used to go with the wife to church on a sunday to keep the peace, she liked this as kept me out of the pub, however when the vicar asked me to make a stipulated amount to the collection box every week our bonhomie fell apart and told him I would put in what I could afford. I never went back to that Church. John Sabourn

John, I could have written exactly the same words in 1965, although the priest from the pulpit told families that the bigger the family the more they should contribute, what planet was he living on, I stood up and said 'the lord said you shall be thankful for what you receive' and walked out, my new wife (a good catholic) followed me. That brought a bit of godly silence. Felt guilty for my wife but we never went back to that church though the priest tried to persuade my wife to, never tried with me. I never went to church again except for hatches, matches and dispatches but have what dear old mum called Christian values to live by

Re: High speed train set
The Church I attend has never done that and leaves your contribution to you , many placing their gift into the offering in a sealed envelope , The Church is independent , managed by the 100 or so members and responsible to itself , . The large organisations have huge structures of management to support , and some seem to have lost their way quite badly , trying all kinds of things to attract more customers whilst forgetting where they came from and are going too . Women Bishops , Gay marriage , Openly gay Clergy , and Santa Claus at Christmas .Special services for pet . All highly commendable and politically correct , but not exactly biblical .
