I make a monthly donation to Medicine Frontier, the reason being that any catastrophe in the world, they always seem to be there first, of course i cannot say they get every penny of my money, but i hope. I did do other charities as well, but stopped them when i started getting phone calls asking for an increase, but when i asked the lady on the phone ,was she getting any cut on increase i made, i was not answered plainly, and so i told her i was stopping my donation forthwith, KT
I also donate via KIVA, my initial contribution of 100 dollars has been repaid back to me and relent again for 7 years now, and i am still using my original money. KT

I was in limbo in 1974 and did a trip on the Exmoor which was then managed by anchor line of Glasgow. We were one of these so called food aid ships which took flour and other food commodities to the Red Sea ports. She was a 12000 deadweight ship and was chocablock. One hold consisted totally of alcohol, in supposedly countries that were alcohol free, certainly makes one wonder. I would not give a penny to any foreign charity unless I actually handed it over to the recipient. After the Tsumanis of some years ago a sum of money in the region of 50,000 plus dollars was raised by the W.A. freemasons. This money was actually carried by members to Malaya and handed over to the masonic brethren of that country who built I believe 5 schools, there were no middlemen. There are a couple of reasons whay govs give money to some of our 'third world' cousins.
Firstly it gievs them, in their opinion, a moral edge over the rest of us and they get brownie points from the 'do gooders' in society so more votes for them.
Secondly as said by a number of members much of the money goes to buy arms, where else would they get it none of them work according to TV images. With weapons they can kill oneanother thus keeping them away from those in the West.
Am I being a bit cynical, no just telling it as I see it.

Something similar on a smaller scale... I used to go with the wife to church on a sunday to keep the peace, she liked this as kept me out of the pub, however when the vicar asked me to make a stipulated amount to the collection box every week our bonhomie fell apart and told him I would put in what I could afford. John, I could have written exactly the same words in 1965, although the priest from the pulpit told families that the bigger the family the more they should contribute, what planet was he living on, I stood up and said 'the lord said you shall be thankful for what you receive' and walked out, my new wife (a good catholic) followed me. That brought a bit of godly silence. Felt guilty for my wife but we never went back to that church though the priest tried to persuade my wife to, never tried with me. I never went to church again except for hatches, matches and dispatches but have what dear old mum called Christian values to live byQuote:
