Keith vast difference between a Giro (Benefit) and Gyro (Navigational) although both can save your life. Perhaps someone could change the heading to Gyro trouble I know we normally don't correct spelling errors but this is a technical spelling and not a mistake, hope William doesn't mind my request

Finale on Gyro we will never know the cause.. Have put down in my mind that Rob was changing generators and was a bit tardy getting the other on the board, he was thinking of the girls in Shields. JS

Well I get a modern equivalent of the Giro for a disability caused by being in a parked car hit by a woman in a new car who pressed the accelerator not the brake almost twenty years ago giving me a dislocated spine and mobility problems , so yes I am wobbly , but I wish every day that I was not eligible to receive my Giro .

And in answer to John Sabourn. I believe that on an old DC ship the voltage would dip quite dramatically when motors started up but would have thought , with my very limited knowledge of what the Sparkie used to do , I believed the Gyro had a heavy flywheel that compensated for volt drops . But have known engineers take very little notice of the switchboard , so that scenario is very possible

Your way is obviously twelve years out of date , Until 1968 the social security responsibilities had been split between the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance, and the health responsibilities by the Ministry of Health.
In 1988 the department was split again into a separate Department of Health and the Department of Social Security.
In 2001 the Department for Work and Pensions was formed from the Department of Social Security, absorbing the employment functions which had previously been the responsibility of the Department for Education and Employment since the dissolution of the Department of Employment in 1995.

Thanks, but it was my use of DHSS that was out of date, not having used there services was not aware of any change, whatever the establishment or what it does is of no real interest, was just explaining Wobbly which is used for much including politicians etc in the hope the post may now move on to gyros as I realise was the intention. Well let us hope no one here has to use the much needed services of this department unnecessarily , I found it difficult to apply an it was only after family pressure that I filled the forms in , many people here rely on this very essential department , and I suspect they , like I do , resent being lumped in with the fraudulent claimants that give the genuine a reluctance to claim . Being disabled costs money , sad but true , and the small amount I get helps me get about . even If I get a a bit wobbly

But the intention should be to discuss if necessary in a new post and attempt a return away from giros to gyro ?

Rob, going back over the years with the DHSS or whatever one calls it now, you must have seen a lot of changes. Going back to 1957 when up for 2nd. Mate my only source of income was the 30 bob a week given for unemployment, this was stopped after 12 weeks. Scratting around and borrowing money to be able to stay ashore for various courses etc. I was always made aware of the people in those days who were in the pub every night and hadn't worked for yonks, as far as I was aware there was nothing wrong with them. Even 57 years ago the system was being misused. I certainly know there are genuine cases, but the system has been misused by those who know how to achieve something for nothing. We now have a generation of those who will use the system from the cradle to the grave. Even out here the younger ones call unemployment benefit their wages. More than likely their parents were the same also. To further agitate matters it makes it even worse when you see aliens entering the country and expect at least the same benefits if not more than those legally entitled to them. Another countries benefit and welfare system mucked up by foreigners who shouldn't even be in the country. Cheers John S.
