Hi Fly, there are plenty of Seafaring Stories on the Swinging the Lamp forum.
Read them and then let us see what stories you can come up with, after 40 years , like me, plus, of seafaring you must have had some adventures, 40 years surely could not have been that boring, mine was exciting.
    Cheers

Tell one little incident that sticks in my mind. I asked in one post if anyone had been to Boquerón just outside the wire of Guantanamo Bay. Pub on the Jetty where all the girls went and all the crowd off the ship at smokos meal hours and at night. Directly off the bar were the toilets with no doors on. Remember this engineer still in his boiler suit a bit under the weather decided to go for a crap. Was in sight of a few of us sitting in the bar. Sitting there with his boiler suit around his ankles, decides to spew up right into his boiler suit. Stands up and pulls it back on. I often cringe when I think of it. No it wasn't you Rob this time as know you weren't there. .This is not a made up story. Can think of many similar incidents with similar people probably myself amongst them which is why don't like being reminded of " what you did last night". Cheers John S

    HI ALL
My mate and I decided to give up smoking there was a Quid in it for whomever stuck it out, tough decision for him as he was practically a chain smoker and we were on a tanker easy for me as I had packed up many times. One day I was convinced he was reneging on the bet, I was passing the toilets and saw this smoke coming from under the door, opening the door there was Joe with TWO cigs in his mouth; puffing away. I heard that story repeated in a pub in Swansea with a few elaborations, but there you go another sea story to be termed true or false by the unbelievers.
    Cheers Des

There were two members of the catering crew off a Ferry on their way home from Weymouth to Southampton , when they got piled for speeding just outside Ringwood , The front passenger thought he would help the driver disguise the smell of alcohol on his breath and handed him a lit cigarette as the police officer approached , He wound the window down , pleaded his cause and was let off with a bollocking , all the time with a cigarette in each hand . I loved the copper's powers of observation that night . The truth is often so stupid that you could not make it up

Our experiences or stories are not easily told whether embellished or not in the company of non seafarers as they often sound too improbable & unbelievable to them. Sadly causing them to think they are BS or just colourful. I mean who would believe anyone blowing up a toilet in a Valpo bar for kicks with someone you know in the next cubical & the common wall between the next bar having a huge hole blown in it so you could see each other through the dust & debris at each bar? Or having your bare feet boot polished by the shoe shine boy too look like you had shoes on, right down to the lace holes, no ordinary if you will shore person.
I have said it before as the sea BMN wise fell away I entered the mining oil & gas biz, & that is just the same, well was so those guys would always understand & believe as they behaved often far more colourfully have to say, & right up into the early mid 80's.
JohnS p36, love it it reminds me of a story that occurred in Cartagena Colombia in my mining days, early 70's. A huge Hebrides Island mate of mine & still is God bless his cotton socks. Anyway he & I were spending a night with some ladies of less than scrupulous morals. On hearing a fearful scream the next morning I rushed into the next room where Hector was with his 'lady' to find he had taken a dump in the bidet instead of the dunny he was in hysterics laughing as had never seen a bidet before however causing the 'lady'to have a hissy fit. Still laugh even now thinking about that. Tell that or the other one they would just look at you with a jaundiced eye. Richard
