That is a bit strong Eifion, I do not recall any stewards saying they were Masters, after a couple of months, I am sure others would have noticed anyone saying that. and to call others masturbators is a bit juvenile for a man of your standing.
Name names and events then Prove them wrong.
It is OK to have a bit of jovial banter but Not insulting.
I did serve for 43 years and was a Master. not after two months of waiting on tables.

There was a Clan Line Electrician who had the nickname " 97" , the dour third engineer worked out that from 15 a 5 year apprenticeship , 10 years in the South African Army , 10 years as a Truck driver in Southern Rhodesia , another 10 years with SAR&H 15 years Gold Mining , 12 years as a Namibian Gold miner , 10 years as an Electrician with Globe Engineering and 10 years on Union Castle as a second Electrician , that despite looking late twenties , he was actually 97 years old

I knew this guy that emigrated to Canada, he worked in a factory amongst many ex-pats,smokos and meal times all the Ex-Pats sat on the same table and told yarns of their time back in the Uk.This one guy used to tell "Ripping Yarns" of his derring do during the war.Every day he would tell the boys of the different trouble and near escapes that he had had during his wartime career.Anyway this other guy chipped in one day and told a story when he was on the Ack-Ack guns during the war based on the cliffs of Dover.He told of a time firing at a plane only to find "It was one of ours".The story teller jumped up and said "Was that you was it you b/std i was in that plane and I've been dying to meet you you could've killed me that day"

in the pub I use in a village by me ,,,,,an old port line engineer from north shields and me go for a beer......one day theres a bloke comes to the bar and during the conversation with the barmaid ses he is ex merchant navy.....my mate sed on deck catering or down below .....he appeared not to hear so my mate shouted the same question ........the bloke nearly swallowed his glass not expecting to meet two ex mn men in a tiny village pub inyorks........I was a lt commander he said my mate and I nearly choked on our beers.........what shipplng co said I ......you wouldn't no them said he my ribs were aching with my mate digging them .......what sort of cargoes did you carry ........everything said he by now he was going a bit pink......me and my mate were purple ........do u live round here said my mate ...no said he in the west indies ......oh yer we said what island ......you wouldn't of heard of it said he we were pissin our selves by then go on tellus .....he supped up the rest of his beer and said as he headed for the door curaco.....I nealy had a wobbly by then.....do you no happy valley we both shouted but alas the commander hadset a new course

These to mates met up one said I went to see that film last night "Moby Dick".the other guy said I cant stand them sex films,his mate said it was'nt a sex film it was about whales,to which his mate replied I cant stand them bloody Welsh neither!!!

#44 I wouldn't divulge the name of a married Lady Brian. Got back to ship about 0300 hrs. Getting up at 0700 hrs. discovered the cabin had been cleaned out clothes everything just about. Was either followed back to the South dock or thieves were already onboard. Pleased I didn't wake up as would probably of had my throat cut. Others had been cleaned out also. The previous week or so a Norwegian seaman had been accosted on the Docks by a couple of tea leaves and he thought he would have a go, they took off his arm with a machete. Bad place some of those B.A. Docks. If it wasn't for the women and the steaks wouldn't be worth a light. Cheers John S.
