Re: Riots in the UK
I posted some comments recently, which were construed as being more to the right than an another posters view. It was enough of this nonsense please desist from these political posts. Thinking this was the last of my engagement in these subjects, I received a private message from the same poster trying to engage me in more of this spurious clap trap . I liked another post from someone and received another private message from the same poster which went on to rant about a gang of 5 disrupting the site by nefarious methods . I considered leaving this site then as I thought maybe there are too many sowing discord on the site to merit my time and interest in all things Nautical I changed my mind as the site is excellent while appealing to my sphere of interest .
However I will watch the level of political Hogwash I need to paddle through while enjoying the site and decide whither to continue.
Doug

Re: Riots in the UK
Hi JS. My son also moved to Oz 33 years ago and he tells me the same as you've described. Melbourne used to regularly voted "Best place to live in the World". He told me how Victoria PM Dan Andrews, decided to improve Melbourne - by importing S*danese !! He said nowadays, there are almost daily reports of violent gang invasions into houses... usually by the very "nice" people that Andrews imported. On top of that, leftie judges give them sentences below the yardstick for deportation, so the gangs don't have to be deported back to S*dan. Politicians (on all sides) and dodgy, self interest judges, usually don't live among the chaos their treachery has caused. Here in Europe, Sweden used to be known as the safest place in the world. Now after "shrewd" imports by their leaders, Sweden is the rape capital of Europe.

Post #128. Des the last Tory Government tried to halt or slow down the flow of illegals, but were thwarted by left wing lawyers and and of course the Labour party.
It seems that once threatened with deportation you can appeal as many times as possible against the deportation order. off course, the appeal costs are meet by the UK public.
Appeal lawyers like Human rights Lawyers have become very rich.

Re: Riots in the UK
Your telling the tale from your own perspective. I happen to actually know what happened. This was in response to a rape of a 15 year old, church going virgin girl, who was gang raped by Leb*nese youths. Similar thing happened in Bondi three years ago. My son spotted a young girl, obviously in distress, surrounded by 5 or 6 Leban*se guys. He walked over to enquire if she was OK. The brave guys remonstrated with him, telling to move on and mind his business. Luckily a bunch of Aussies saw what going on and wandered over to back up my son - at which point the brave Lebs fled. Next day more Lebs arrived mob handed. After several altercations, the Sydney police saw sense, set up road blocks and advised any Lebs that after what had occurred they weren't too welcome in Bondi, and maybe they should go back to their own areas and rape their own. The Aussies handled it well, unlike the indigenous population of Rochdale and Rotherham etc., who turned a blind eye.

#131, why not name and shame the individuals as this should not happen on an MN site.

#132 Gino when we emigrated in 1991 I was 54 and 55 was the cut off age. It was my hope to retire here and have a part time job just sweeping up the Mall or something. However I had no money behind me to support that wishful thinking as my house in uk was unsold and remained in that state for a few years so all my dreaming was unfounded. I had to go back to sea as was the only job I knew. The union was a closed shop as already stated
and to be employed one had to be a union member. We were landed immigrants and fulfilled all the obligations of becoming citizens so had to do some fast talking to gain membership of the Guild. Even then some complained as they had to wait years to be a member. There were two stumbling blocks however 1. To become a citizen one had to be in the country for at least 2 years, due to my occupation leaving the country at frequent intervals it took me 3 years to get those 2 years in. 2. Not being a citizen I had no tax file number and every penny or cent I earned was taxed. However the salary’s were very good and we survived. I had two referees for my migration one was my sister and the other a superintendent of Adelaide Steamship company so everything was above board and have never regretted the decision ,although it was not a piece of cake at the time. Cheers JS

Congrats JS. You saying you didn't get put up in hotels at local citizens expense !! No, you did it the right way, like my son when he moved to Oz. Unlike the current channel invaders.
