No he wasn't.
He was born and bred in Manchester, went to school there and amongst other things was a committed Man Utd fan.

James Curry #26
James, Immigration*officers*are a mixed bag in any country. I am a US citizen and when I worked, I was almost constantly traveling to the middle east, Africa, Europe and South America, consequently it didn't take long to fill a passport up, so they attached*a concertina extension of pages into*my passport I had as many as five additions before I retired then had to renew my passport, I still have the old one and it's almost a half inch thick. I would get questioned at the US immigration, most of the time I would show them my business card and away I would go, but sometimes they would signal the customs and I would get everything but a strip search.
When retired my wife and I were extensively traveling, I went ahead to London to see my family and she was joining me a week later and I would pick her up at the London airport.* She was ages coming through passport control and customs.* She had hit a female immigration officer who asked her occupation, she told "Retired" (my wife was 35), then asked "What was your occupation?"* "Schoolteacher". She replied.* Normally*everybody who visits the UK gets a six-month entry visa. After full search and having to wait, the officerett gave her a ten-day visa instead of six months and my wife had to get her passport stamped on the way out of the UK.
I had bought a car in the UK, and we had planned to tour for 4 months, instead we ended up driving to Dover and getting an exit stamp and crossing to France and toured Europe instead
We explained what was wrong to the Officer*at Dover as he wasn't going to stamp our books, just wave us through. The Dover officer suspected that she*was new on the job and overly keen, and suspected my wife was in the country to get a teaching job (visitors are not to work).* Seems many US and Australian teachers come to the UK for a working long vacation. * He said as he*gave our*passports back. "Must be the wrong*time of the*month for her too."
On our reentry*we got a six-month entry visa.* Garaged the*car and came back after our summer stay in*OZ.
From then on*when we got questioned about our occupations etc.* We told them "We got very lucky and hit a Lotto winning."
Cheers, Rodney

Re: Channel taxi service
On something Keith posted it showed a rubber dinghy with about eight blokes in it, I noticed that one kept his head covered, he didn't want his face published, makes you think who is coming across the Channel .

Re: Channel taxi service
A bit on the news last night about the camp in Kent at the old airfield.
It would appear that many of the 'visitors' there have Diphtheria!!!!
I thought that one was brought under control many years ago, but this is one of the many problems with some of these people.
Thye come from countries where such diseases ae still rife.
TB, just about gone in UK is now rearing again in many parts of the globe.
Last year some 5 million cases were discovered.

Happy daze John in Oz.

After TB was eradicated for many years, London is now hailed as the TB capital of Europe.

Re: Channel taxi service
#38 Johnny, this has been going on for many years and has been suppressed by the authorities. In 2001/2 I was involved in a project on the main hospital in Leicester.
My first visit to site was with senior project engineers and I asked why they were building a new ward on the roof of the multistorey building.
They told me it was to be an isolation ward for TB cases; my reaction was same as others on here, I thought it was eradicated, but was informed that it was common there due to the number of infected immigrants coming from the sub continent. They were not broadcasting the reason for the build.

I don't know if they are medically checked when they land on our shores?, but if they are, no wonder the NHS is on the cheeks of its ar**.
