    Hi Anthony,
Re` block of flats berthed at the western arm. You know what mate ? I`m beginning to wonder if the `alleyways` in these things actually have street names like Marine Drive, Maritime Way, Captains Lane, Ocean Drive etc, with cabins called Sea View, Sailors Rest, Mariners Retreat, and such liike ?
It would not surprise me in the least !

    Regards,
    Ken.

While I agree completely with all you say,a thought has occured to me.It happens sometimes even at my advanced age. Possibly much the same sort of thing was said when steamships first appeared. You know the sort of thing,"Ugly looking thing," "Not like the beautiful Sailing Ships." Yes they were beautiful, damned hard work for the Crew I should think. Perhaps it's a case of another new breed of"Ships" and we'll just have to live with it? I live in Southampton, overlooking Sothampton Water. I see lots of them and am slowly getting used to them. I can see where you are all coming from though.

Hi hawkeye1, Actually I did in my initial post refer to the probable views of windjammer men at the coming of the steamship. I imagine they were somewhat `aghast`, as I am today. Though I really cannot see myself ever coming to terms with these floating apartment blocks. One of my greatest pleasures in retirement was in photographing ships. I`m afraid I`ve more or less turned my back on that now since there are very few of what I would regard as ships remaining to be photographed. As you suggest, new times mean changes will take place regardless of all that went before. They call it `progress` of course, but I for one certainly don`t have to appreciate it. That final remark of mine is of course in itself the story of change throughout the ages.

    Regards,
    Ken.

Well Ken you are about right regarding names. On the Oasis of the Seas there is even a central square complete with gardens etc.

The BIBBY CHALLENGE,a floating accommodation/prison/refugee vessel-- or "Coastel"), doesn't look too bad when compared with some of her contemporary cruise ship sisters...........

Cheap crew costs,too...just an Electrician to change the odd light bulb....and a sanitary engineer(or plumber)...for the 'business end'

Gulliver are you sure that is not just a pile of containers with some windows?
