Louis, before leaving home to join my first ship my old man gave me some advice which has served me well, he said dont get into discussions with your mates about politics or religion and dont gamble for money with them. Its the sure fire way to falling out with them.

#11 My old man probably had the same identical words of advice , but with the added advice of beware of strange women . Which he found very hard to put into words Tony , after 1 trip to sea I could have enlightened him and made an embarrassing conversation for him into a piece of pie. Not from my personal experiences of course but to advice given by older hands. Cheers JS

Left Right Wet Dry and bloody Homos. Why the feck am I under the illusion that I must choose one of these to fit in. Well I must inform that I refuse to fit into one of these groups and remain independent with my views. Seems that in todays world that if one comes up with an argument about anything the meaning of the argument is degraded into being from one or more of a certain group. It is no wonder that we can not progress into this twenty first century. As for complaining about a theme of a post. Well no bugger is making you read it are they and if you comment upon said post then got to expect opposing views for sure. That my friend was the tenet on number five every time. Either take part or go into them mess or cobin and have a cuppa or a tipple or two and a good lie down. Think that those who complained like some here where termed. Drama queens

I have been trying to understand the heart of this thread perhaps someone could explain what a lefty is? without rocking the boat. The only left that comes to mind is leftovers or "by the left quick march" Regards R.

    Hi Roger.
Anyone with views that differ from the posters. They think everyone who doesn't agree with theirs is either a lefty or a right'y. the fact that w were all seamen with different views in life doesn't count, some went to sea with lofty views.

Simple explanation, for most Lefties are considered to be of a Socialist nature with Righties being more capitalistic.

Thanks Des, cant remember sailing with "Lofty Views" was he deck or engine room?. Anyway jokes aside. Our worldly experiences and blessed with longevity should enable us to be all things to all men, Measurably not miserably. Regards R.

You don't sound too bright to me if that's all you can come up with, surely you've heard of left wing, left footer, even left back and left behind or left out.
