Re: Have you seen the light
Ivan.
You wouldn't believe what the previous Govt of 10 years did with hiring Consultants to do the work of the Civil service, $billions in back hander's came to light when the new Govt took over, the funny part is the Companies involved where incensed, and sacked their head honchos. They probably didn't get any of the money involved. They were probably responsible for the Spanish stuff ups.

Re: Have you seen the light
Ivan, it will not take that long.
Great chunks of the country are being bought up by China and Japan.
Farms in particular as the younger generation are no longer interested in it.
We have here in Victoria two new ferries on order from Spain to replace the old ones now in use.
The old ones came from Spain many years ago as second hand ones.

Re: Have you seen the light
I was born, raised and educated in the shadow of the Brecon Beacons. Welsh blood courses through my veins but I don't give a flying f++k what the Beacons Authority call them, provided they don't impose it to the exclusion of the English version. The main complaint is that the locals were not consulted. The decision was probably made by someone or committee in a far off land (England?) by someone wanting to appease a vocal minority wanting to be politically/racially correct. Does that sound familiar? For those who had had to do the Fan Dance up and down Pen y Fan ( P Company / SAS selection etc) there are far more colourful names for the Beacons! Ask anyone who has had to reside in the draughty huts at Sennybridge Camp.

Re: Have you seen the light
We have a similar problem here in Oz.
Mainly here in Victoria where the hard left gov wish to appease the \Aboriginal voters and the nutters who claim all manner of things.
So the good old English names have been converted to Aboriginal ones.
Most canot be easily pronounced, but there is another much larger problem.
The Aboriginal communities all had their own language, no common one, so though some may be able to understand those from interstate may not.
So for most of us Ayres rock is still that not bloody Ularu

Re: Have you seen the light
John the UK has exactly the same thing (The Aboriginal communities all had their own language,)
You have Scouse, Geordie, Brummie, Cockney,Glaswegian, Welsh, Irish North & South.
I think the Welsh is the most pleasent of them all, they don't talk so much more like sing as they speak lovely on the ear.
Then of course you have multi cultural dialects in English and Asian.
But with the UK a melting pot for all races and several generations born in Britain I always smile when an Asian opens their mouth and speaks with a Georide , Scouse and various other accents
Part of what makes the UK unique, Australia must be similar.

Re: Have you seen the light
There is also a difference between states on a number of items.
Here in Victoria the corner shop is the milk bar, in Queensland the Deli.
Beer in all states will get you a pint, but also in Victoria we have a Pot, half pint, in NSW the Schooner.
But the number of different languages now is so vast we lose contact with many.
Over 187 different nations here, similar to Uk I suspect.
And the occasional white man!!!!
