Down here they are called *Overners*, of which i am one. Those born here are Caulkheads, we frequently get a name change, and spelt Isle of White.

Same over here, changing names to Abbo ones no one understands or can pronounce.
Ayres Rock now known by many as Uluru, but for most it is still the Rock.

You seem to have your definitions mixed up.
There are many in this site who seemingly daily feel the need to find something to be outraged or worked up about, usually on the basis of some half baked/untruthful story from one of the rags, perhaps because their lives are otherwise so empty. Such individuals are very much jaundiced.

Re: Have you seen the light
Normally try to avoid politics and religion, except in extreme circumstances and Australian politics is normally a definite no-no, as don't know anything about them worth knowing. However I did think the post title may be appropriate about the calibre of those in Canberra (or elsewhere) making decisions.
In 2017 Oz took delivery of two destroyers from Spanish shipbuilders which were so full of faults they have practically been rebuilt by local yards in Oz, recently Oz took delivery from the same Spanish yard of two fleet replenishment vessels, again full of faults including the fresh water supply systems on both vessels and the systems cannot be used because of cross contamination of other fluids being used on the vessels, consequently each vessel is having to carry tons of bottled water as the source of cross contamination has not been discovered on either vessel ( I reckon Greek engineers from Greek Tramps would soon find it!, they could fix anything)
Now those in charge of acquiring further vessels (3 frigates) have tenders out and are favouring the Spanish yard, as it is the cheapest; perhaps they have never heard of the old adage 'you get what you pay for'
Just an observation, doesn't look like they have seen the light

Re: Have you seen the light
Ivan maybe it is the back handers received for agreeing the contract, just saying. Hopefully the bits and pieces the Spaniardsare making for H&W to build into ships will be the real deal.
Only ever sailed on one Spanish built ship, what a bloody nightmare. Great design the main fire was two decks up from the bottom plates, fun getting that thing primed and online. Chemical ship built for Bibby who chartered it to Stolt line.
I have dry docked several LNG carriers in Navantai's yard in Ferrol. Cannot complain as they did a good job on time and I believe on budget.

Pressed the wrong button
I see that Canberra has decided not to cancel the 99 year lease granted to the Chinese to operate and manage Port Darwin and its infrastructure, maybe they have seen the light in realising that in 99 years all Australia will be a Chinese acquisition anyway.

Many tried, that is why Wales has 500 Castles built by foreigners trying to keep them down, the same would happen to the SAS
