Lewis, I agree that the Aboriginal population is in decline and has been for some time.
But your original comments taken at face value give the impression they wee slaughtered by the British and this is not the truth.
Yes many died from disease, but so did many on the early settlers. Go around the cemeteries as we do and see the age of some who perished very early after the first fleet arrived.
I doubt you intended to sound as though the locals had been slaughtered by the British so I will take the posting from written material as sound.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

What may seem abbhorent by today's standards was quite normal then and practised by all nations even by the indigenous peoples of the various lands, many of whom practised human sacrifices, always amazes me how current day historians/armchair travellers/dogooders etc want us to apologise for something that happened centuries ago and who conveniently forget that many of these discovered lands were practising slavery and other such niceties long before we reached them. I take my hat off to those intrepid travellers of yore who sailed off into the unknown without the benefit of Google, it is so easy to criticise when you have actually done nothing yourself and only state the facts which are convenient for your particular argument, but never look at the overall picture.

Like modern day politicians (those of fiddling expenses claims) who have the audacity to bring RR to court for paying bribes to Indian and other countries officials for securing contracts to keep British workers in employment, are they so bluddy niaive that they think other countries don't do it, France is well known for it, and in business and Govt circles in India and Pakistan it is a way of life to grease the wheels

#122. Ivan as far as I am concerned Britain or Australia has nothing to apologise for. Any politician who offers apologies for something that happened so long ago is talking for himself only, he is not speaking for me in any manner or way. This is especially so when during our lifetimes the likes of Japan and I think Germany have offered no such apologies for their own atrocities that are still fresh in the mind. It is all bulls###. That is what is wrong with the world today too many people think saying sorry heals everything. The Allies after the last war went out of their way to rebuild these countries in Europe way past what they had any need to do. To them that was probably the first sign of weakness. Get out and let them get on with their own devises. Build up Britains forces once again to what it was. Cut back severely on unwanted immigration. If you have to have religion then it is a Christian country and nothing else, religion is not a law unto itself it is a pastime, and comes second to the man made laws of the country no buts and whys. This freedom of expression has to be a morally good freedom, and is not there for people to exploit. You want to pray go and do it in a country that practices it as such. Those that have no legal rights of residence , move on to where your face fits. I am also old enough to say this, others may want to call it other things, common sense is what I call it and too many people are frightened of standing up and saying so
in case of derision and breaking some stupid law that some stupid politician has made by listening to some stupid do gooder who fancies himself as the good Samaritan. Have a look and see how many of these so called derelicts of society have taken up residence with their own people by birthright and religious beliefs, and see the still huge massive areas of nothingness in Saudi Arabia does this not tell anyone anything ? No we listen to the wrong people, and take no notice of what our brain tells us. JS
