#6...The world is just going round to what it was formely Rob. What goes around comes around. Back to where it all started maybe. Don't think anything man will ever be capable of doing will make the slightest bit of difference. Maybe make it a bit easier for Asthma sufferers for a while. Will certainly clean out the Hooghly and the venice canals. Did the Manchester ship canal ever get cleaned up, or is it still a hospital job if you fall in. JS

The Manchester Canal is lovely and clean now. The Salford Docks are now used for swimming marathons.etc.

Fleetwood is my Dunkirk. when the hordes from the kyber come up the M55 I am off to my roots, the land of VIKINGS. Dont know which one yet . Maybe Greenland.

I see the latest on that Ship stranded in Ice the Passengers are all now safely on board the Aurora Australis and heading back to base!
Airlifted by a Chinese Helicopter I believe!
Great news that all are well and in very high spirits! The Crew is still on board awaiting a good Weather change,hopefully they will be able to break through soon!

The Aurora Australis also had to abandon the rescue as at the time and still now the Ice was too thick even for her to break through! So just stood by waiting and hoping the Weather would break!

So a good end to what must have been some nerve racking moments for the Passengers! And Crew!

What do they do for cooling water. Bring the ice on board and melt it? Must have heating coils or something in their own Fresh Water tanks otherwise will be ice also. No problems for ice in their vodka. John S

Re cooling water. When we did Montreal in winter we always went on internal cooling for main engine and generators, using the aft peak as a re-circulation tank. This meant that the fresh water tanks (drinking water) were always kept at above freezing due to the heat generated by the main engine and auxiliaries The system was also used in dry dock to save costs by not having to rely on shore power at all times. No doubt that ships designed for Antarctic ice navigation will have heating coils fitted in all there drinking water and ballast tanks.
