Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
Alf we don't shoot snakes either, although I bet some do on the excuse they were being attacked. Had 2 in my front garden last year, brown snakes very poisonous. Called the snakeman in, he puts them in a bag and goes and releases them in the bush. This time of the year are just coming out of hibernation, do you want a couple to go with your very expensive newly acquired paintings. Sea snakes are caught up north off Darwin and their skins utilized for belts and shoes etc. some people make I am told a lucrative living from. Are one of the most venomous in the world, however their fangs are set that far back it would be hard for them to get a grip. Plenty of real nasties out here going a lot cheaper than your paintings. Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
You dont have to shoot the roos, I have travelled on almost every outback road through the deserts and forests in every State,
The roads are littered with dead Roos, run over with the oad trains and other vehicles, a Stockman I knew would cut the rump off them and roast it on his fire, I had a piece up in the Northern Territory and it was delicious. along with his billy tea and damper bread.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
Brian when working up off the Northern Coast of Australia, have flown back home via Darwin Airport. They have food packs made up for tourists returning to UK and Europe with Kangaroo meat, Crocodile, Buffalo, and all sorts of so called delicacies. Me I would rather as the saying goes throw another shrimp on the barby. By the same token however you would not be able to bring meat as such into Australia, due to quarantine laws, now we have a new government we hope the same laws will be applied to the illegals entering also. Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
There must be a million and one camels running wild in central oz. Every so often they have to cull them. Hope this does not disturb our brothers in the middle east. Anyhow enjoy Fleetwood, was staying with ex shipmate in Morecombe a few months ago the RN club was quite cheap for beer there believe they now allow MN people in, as members. John Sabourn

Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
John A, reckon they should be with the Greenwich Maritime Museum (The best nautical museum in the world I believe.) as it was a RN ship etc, a UK artist. Surprised that there would be a hullabaloo in Aus over it considering guess as they lost at auction?
I took my wife to the fantastic British Museum whilst in London (it is still free) we spent over the six weeks 3 days there in shifts of 1/2 a day) She was fascinated by the Elgin Marbles, especially the letter of authority for their removal from the Turkish government to Lord . We had some serious in depth as well as amusing 'discussions' over a No of dinners about the right & wrong of things such as same being in foreign museums rather than in country of origin. We each agreed museums would be bloody boring if only having items in their collection from their country. Also felt jointly that a lot would have been lost to future generations if they had not been saved & looked after by said museums. Of course not a Greeks attitude to the Elgin Marbles.
One of the side tracks we took in our discussions was international zoo's (best we reckon the Audubon in New Orleans worst Beijing) would countries have to have their native animals returned on that basis? If so what a boring zoo you would see if that was the case.
Kangaroo is delicious as Brian says & very low in cholesterol but must only be eaten rare as to cook even medium is as tough as a Wallabies scrotum.
How do you cook a Galah John S? Put three rocks in a pan & boil until soft (:
You know John S the camel came to Aus with the Afghani traders. Some of the outback places we have visited-I worked back in the mining days have amazing grave yards for them & all kept up too by the locals in some cases Aboriginals. What a history, very little said or taught about their contribution to opening up Aus sadly.

Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
Would be hard up to eat a Galah, have many in the garden and are a beautiful bird. Was a bit misleading about the graveyard were you referring to the camels or the afghanis. If it is an Afghani graveyard although not ashamed of their background I think if you called one of their descendants such he would maybe get annoyed, as would consider himself an Australian, the same as all who live here and take out citizenship should. This is one of the big problems in the uk and we hope it doesn't happen here, that they don't bring their archaic laws with them and live the same as everyone else. Apart from Afghani camel drovers there were many others of a different background, this is what makes Australia what it is. Australia is appreciated by the average Australian has many faults the same as other countries, but will choose our own way in the world. Something that those in Europe don't appreciate is that this is a very young country and must get the basics right now. This is a party political broadcast on behalf of the ...... .......... party. Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
Ref #12. Had a few near misses myself. You are required in WA if you do hit one you are supposed to stop and check that they don't have a Joey in their pouch. I feel sorry for a lot of the wildlife as such as it is being forced elsewhere with the huge reclaiming of land for building purposes. Everyone thinks that WA has massive amounts of land for migrants which is true enough, but there is no infrastructure there to accommodate this. If the Western Australian government doesn't watch its step it will be the next on the slag heap. Cheers John Sabourn

HI Brian.
Have a nice time in Fleetwood. What you were saying about roos on the road is right, I had to take my wife to hospital in Canberra last week, we counted the dead roos on the side of the road, 36 and that is only just over an hours drive.
Cheers Des
