after a fullgale in wallaroo oz I found a galaar with a broken wing.....I took it back aboard and honestly thought it was some sort of parrot .....but was told it was a very dumb type bird and people who said or did stupid things .....were called silly galaars...so I wrung its neck and gutted it and asked the cook to roast it,,,,,,,as the ship was one of runcimans namely the cragmoor the chief steward heard about it......and the old man three mates two apprentices and a turdle of engineers all got what they thought was xmas dinner ...the bones were made into a stew and fed the croud down aft for three days.......so beat that one for a bad feeder regards cappy

Brian why would you want to do that? Another house means more living spaced for more sick birds and I would have thought there are enough over there already! And if you have any crazy ideas about sending your neighbour out here to live in it, forget it, we have enough of our own here as it is.

Obviously your wildlife in the West is not as learned as ours here in Vic. On the side of the road you will often see a notice, 'injured wild life phone ...... number'. Funny thing is I have never seen a roo with a mobile phone.

Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
A couple of years ago , on the Motorway out of [Portsmouth the traffic was stopped , a friend of mine , a bit of a country man got out of his pick up and sw an injured deer in the road , he offered to take it to the vet , and lifted it into the back of his pick up , and drove off towards the vet . But felt so sorry for the poor injured animal he broke its neck to stop the pain and suffering , then we put it in the freezer , to keep it cool . WHO is going to pay a vet bill for an injured deer , bet the woman who ran into it felt good knowing that it was not going to suffer . Very nice is roe Deer

John S, no I was referring to the Afghani graveyards rather than the dromedaries. Not sure if I have ever met an Afghani Aus, did once meet an Afghani taxi drive in Brisse though.
Hey Cappy you mad b d that must have been some bum feeder & a sizeable galah to feed that mob & still give the bones to the lot aft.
We saw once on the road a Asian group picking up road kill & stuffing it into their van. Still chuckle about it after all what would be wrong with it? Wonder if it wound up in a Chinese restaurant on the menu?

Re: Its Official, the U.K. and Australia are at war!!!
OVER HERE: Well, it is not a pretty story.... about 200 dead crows near Worcester, Mass and there was concern for Avian Flu. They had a Bird Pathologist examine the remains of all the crows, and he confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu, to everyone's relief. However, he determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, and only 2% were killed by car impact. The city then hired a Ornithological Behaviourist to determine the disproportionate percentages for truck versus car kill.
The Ornithological Behaviourist determined the cause in short order. When crows eat road kill, they always post a "look-out Crow" in a nearby tree, to warn of impending danger.
His conclusion was that the lookout crow could say "Cah", but he could not say "Truck."
