Hopefully we can have our own.............and a world exclusive - the first definition of whammy in it's nautical meaning.

Could even appear in some of the up market fashion houses. Whammy ties. whammy belts, whammy shoe laces, maybe even find a way of adapting it to replace a womans bra. Think we should take out a patent on, in case one of these intruders on site get in first. Cheers John Sabourn

Great to read all about you old deckies going on about your jargon. I have consulted my (until now ) reliable ref work by Captain Barry Thompson, All Hands and the Cook, and I am sorry to say that in his book covering merchant seaman's language from 1875 - 1975 the "Whammie" does not appear.
Should I ask for my money back?

Neil think the crew must have had all their whammies out of sight every Sunday morning inspection. Although cant think where the cook in the Galley hid his, probably in the soup or somewhere. Cheers John Sabourn
