Indeed John, how very true that expression is. Unfortunately, I took 'the coin' off many a Greek owner only to find that it was hard earned on each occasion. In a way it is difficult to apportion fault,. Me, 'chasing the cash' or the owner.

Was referring to post 58 about a young or assume she was young Greek Lady. Nothing wrong with a Greek shipowner had their good ones as well as bad, same as British. Feel sure the Greeks got blamed for lots of things to take the heat away from others. If a greek shipowner was making money so were you and sometimes proved more generous than others. Post was referring to other things not shipping. Regards John Sabourn

Reading all the posts on this one made me realise that for deck and engine crew it was at times very difficult. From the perspective of catering crew I think we got it a lot easier. Yes we had second stewards to deal with and sometimes cranky head waiters but in all we did the job without too much bother.

whats that got to do with getting a "present" of a young greek lady.
it would appear that the thread has now been switched back to what the captain wants to tell us

    Default Brief instances in time

John in Oz, john these were only extremely short instances in time. Cant be all plain sailing or people would think we had an idylic life style, we all had some bumps during life or would be boring I suppose. More good people than bad at sea probably the same as shore. If the likes of Lady Astor was still alive she would still be insisting we paid for the privilige of being seafarers. regards John Sabourn

Hmm a bit off the thread title but amusing? Rob & Capt. Kong, love those comments, too much! Personally always found those Greek girls rather hairy, one I still remember actually had hair on her back ): I mean they nearly all have moustaches, but.....No she was a female of the species. Apropos getting the old dose, we had a crazy son of a gun on one ship, a Sugar Boat we nicknamed 'Electric Jack' as he was always copping a dose, so we would wait until he selected his companion in whatever Jamaican bar we were in then naively feel marginally safer ): On subject of Greek shipping does any one know if Onassis shipping is still around?
