    Question 'Remember a Seafarer'

If you had to choose one seafarer who had the greatest impact on your life, who would it be? For Seafarers Awareness Week (25 June-1 July), Seafarers UK is collating recollections and stories - please see ‘Remember a Seafarer’ – Seafarers Awareness Week

Mine would be an AB, "Spud Murphy" on the "Oronsay" 1963 onwards, taught me a lot about growing up from a 16 year old deck boy through to AB,
I came from a childrens home, ( my father ran off of with another women ) so no father figure as such.
I will never forget him he was a really nice bloke and looked after me a lot.

First impressions can amke a lot of difference at the begining of your career. The first I met who helped mw enormously was the assistant Head waiter Tony Talavera. So much patience and understanding, he put me on the right track and but for him I may never have folowed in the hospitality industry, an industry that saw me never a day out of work.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Best bit of advice that I got. Do not go to Dock St pool until your tan has faded.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.
