    Default Turnaround Terminal.

Afterall does the average passenger care whether they fly from Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester etc. At the end of the day its about ease of access from their home which counts most. To Mr and Mrs Average they are both well known seaports. Just my thoughts as one who is affiliated to neither port.
Tony,I wont be drawn in to tittle tattle over which is the best port I'm just glad that Liverpool can now operate as a turnaaround port.At present you will find that many people leaving from Southampton who live in the north have to spend a night in Southampton whether they want to or not.For people living in the north who dont wish to stay in a hotel Liverpool will be within hours travel to the ship.It is hoped that many people would like a night in the port of departure and return and I'm sure that this is where Liverpool will score against Southampton.

I would welcome Liverpool as a Turnaround Port, apart from the employment of many people it will bring in a lot of investment to the area.
If I sail from Southampton on a cruise I have to travel the day before and check into a hotel, more expence, Rail fares to there are expensive and hotels are not cheap. I can be in Liverpool in 30 minutes.
Very handy. The same when I arrive home.
    Good luck to Liverpool
I can fly to L.A. and join a ship there in the same time I can join one in Southamton.
    Cheers
    Brian.
    off now for six days.

PS,I just missed a guy on the radio (a scouser living in Southampton) talking about some articles in a Southampton paper, was it the Echo slagging off Liverpool about the new Terminal, do you know the story?[/QUOTE]

Hi Jim, I never heard nor read the story that you mention, mined there are a fair few scousers that settled in Southampton. Jim as I remember ABP wanted to pinch trade from the Continentle Ports, there argument was if the ship has to pass Southampton then why should it not stop here and we tranship the Continentle Containers on feeder ships thereby saving the ship owners mony in fuel. and since I left ABP back in 1989 the Container Port has Doubled. They fired in the first planning order back a couple or three years ago to build a New Container Port on the Marchwood side of the river. It got knocked back, but when they are ready they will submit a new one, when the eccenomicle atmosphere is right, plus I think they have an eye on the Millitary Base at Marchwood, which is I beleive to close under this Governments Military cut backs.

    Default Liverpool Turnaround Terminal

Hi George, this is said with a bit of tongue in cheek and is meant as a joke so I hope you take it that way.All we hear from Southampton is that it is not a level playing field, that is Liverpool getting the terminal with public money.I see that the Saints (Southampton FC) have been promoted to the Premiership so they will now be coming up to Liverpool to play their football against two Liverpool great teams Liverpool and Everton.I can just hear the MUSH'S on the way home after having been trounced good style saying "WELL IT WAS'NT A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD"!!!!!
By the way I did the iplayer and listened to what the guy said,he did'nt live in Southamton but went on line and read your local paper to see what the reaction was in Southamton, all the same old negative stuff about getting your hub caps stolen in Liverpool, and Liverpool leaching off Southampton.
I hope a Liverpool meet up does come off as I certainly would look forward to meeting you again.
    Regards.

    Default Scouse v Mush

thought you were a little unfair to our southern counterpart Jim. after all whats wrong with some healthy competition? There's enough cruise shipping about to serve north & southern England. As to the negative comments re Scousers & Hubcaps the average scally these days sets his sights somewhat higher- why nic hubcaps when you can rob the whole car! Perhaps, as you say, the Beautiful Game may well be a leveller when the Saints come marching up next season to face Red or Blue (Red myself), i hear they're looking for a new midfielder so maybe Joey will be engaged to come and beat us all up.

Thats all were after a level playing field were not here to argue a case for Liverpool or Southampton but since i have posted them 2 pics i have had 2 emails from sranger,s. Both looking forward hopeing to sail out of the famous river mersey. Its an opportunity and lets hope the city takes full advantage of it its not only the pier head as you know Jimmy, There are many delights to be had these days in and around the pier head area the Albert dock has become a tourist attraction for thousands from all over the world to enjoy when they have visited our city. So there could be life after death Jim between what the seaforth freeport is turning around every year and now this bring it on , Surley these days anyone would embrace any economic growth in any of are city,s Maritime or otherwise. Regards Terry.

now then lads the amount of travelers that want to try out a cruising break the amount of ships needed one port could not handle the amount needed so another port would be needed i don't think anybody will be losers but we will see how much revenue on both ports and the end of each financial year? it is good for the country as a whole not just one or the other as a port. the same argument could be said for air travel if an airport can't handle the amount of travelers we build another airport that's what is happening in the cruising market so what is wrong with it. time will tell? but while the companies are paying for cheap labour the only pity the work at sea will never go to the British sailors/seamen. just my view JP
