Lets not forget Churchill moved operations from Bristol to Liverpool because it was more central as in geographic for 2nd world war convoy,s and distribution. The cruise ships may well follow his ideology as it makes sence. All we want is a level playing field let the bloods decide were the future lies as in cruise ships. I just get the feeling sailing out of one of the most historically well known ports in the world is more appealing than Portsmouth. Good luck Pomp,s time will tell Regards Terry.

Terry Mate, Not wishing to be finicky but Portsmouth is the Home of the Royal Navy. Southampton are the loosers in this Cruise Ship disspute. mined I think Southamptons ABP are much moore interested in building up there Container buisness and will be eying up the Marchwood Militery site across the river when the Army pull out. I know from when I worked for ABP there interest was in building Britans largest Container Port, I see no reasson to beleive they have changed there minds. I also think Southampton will retain a fair amount of its Cruise Trade, but what does it matter so long as we don't loose it to Europe, better by far that it goes to the Fair City of Liverpool than it goes to Rotterdam, Le Harve etc

Liverpool Turnaround Terminal.
Hi George,I liked your post 11#.Liverpool is desperate for this facility the present turnaround is from the Langton Dock.Passengers leave from a dock shed at present, this is surrounded by heaps of scrap and voted by passengers as the worst, and quite rightly so.Not a very nice advert for passengers visiiting Liverpool for the first time, you know that area after having attended the Liverpool meet ups.Unfortunately the car parking for the time being will still be from the Langton and passengers bussed to the Pier Head.First ship leaving from the terminal Ocean Countess which leaves next week.
You talk about Southamptons new container base.Peel Holdings have plans for a new berth here which will be built on the river. The idea is that feeder barges will be loaded with containers straight from the ship and these will travel up the Manchester Ship Canal where they expect that Industrial Estates will be built and the barges will service these, thus not using any roads.Geographicly Liverpool is well placed in the Country for serving both North and South so I think this will be a winner.
Regards.
Jim.B.
PS,I just missed a guy on the radio (a scouser living in Southampton) talking about some articles in a Southampton paper, was it the Echo slagging off Liverpool about the new Terminal, do you know the story?

in 2005, Anne and I sailed from Fremantle on the Funchal, Portugese ship , to Langton Dock, It was the most horrible place I have been in an a Passenger ship.
The Passengers were all Australian. We were the only English people onboard.
There was a Chemical plant pouring out all kinds of Toxic fumes and next to it the great mound of scrap Iron. To make it worse it was pouring down and so dismal.
The Ozzies were all complaining of what a horrible dump Liverpool was, why have we come here.
I was embarrassed. I guess first impressions always count.
So maybe the New Terminal will have a more impressive view, a car park could be built away from Langton.
Get Macca to invest , he got his money from Liverpool kids.
Cheers

Brian !!!!!!!
Can anyone here on this site honestly say !!!!!!!! They never listened to a song wrote or sang by Lennon @ Macca or for that matter never bought one. Not jusy Lpool he made his money m8. A bit like the sad death of Robin Gibb should the Bee Gee,s pull Manchester out of the S*it ?? Lpool will pay its own way why because that,s what this city alway,s has and alway,s will breed success. Read up on what Macca has done for the city out of his own pocket. The Beatles were just the iceing on the cake. Regards Terry.
