Re: Covid Vacs
Today the national cabinet are to meet.
One subject on the agenda is,
'what level of vaccination do we need to resume normal life'?
One body has suggested 80%, which for us would require 20.48 million out of the 25.6 to have both shots.
So far about 12 million have had one or two with the rate of uptake at around 1 million a week.
We have to learn to live with this virus, like the Flu it will be there until like Smallpox it is totally eliminated.
Annual top up jabs as with the Flu will become normal, giving us the chance to go on as we did.
So far AZ has produced just over 1 billion doses, with almost 4 having been produced across the globe.
Still need as may again with global population at about 7.9 billion.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Covid Vacs
Vernon, some facts for you.
We need about 16.9 million of the population fully vaccinated to reach 70% and about 19.3 to reach 80%
That is based on a population of 25.6 million of which about 1.4 million will be too young to have it.
To date close to 12 million have had at least one shot with current rate at about 185,000 shots per day, or 1.295 million.
There is no reason, other than stupidity by some, for the nation not to be fully done by years end.
But consider this.
Victoria just out of lock down but still has two cases.
NSW is having over 200 per day and locked down with the troops now roaming the city streets too ensure the people do the right thing.
Brisbane, two new cases and going into a 3 day lock down.
UK, still around 20,000 per day and life goes on as normal.
Bloody politicians and the media here have no idea of what to do.
Apart from Kelly, Federal health public servant and the health officer in NSW none of the other states have fully qualified virus specialists as health advisors.
Worst is in Queensland, just a GP who sits on the national imunisation committee and next govenor of that state.

Re: Covid Vacs
We have just been informed that all over seventies here on the Island will be having our single top up jab in September, at the same time we will also have the flu jab. The winter will tell where we are going with the latest strategy on this virus. A bit too early to tell at the moment, kt

Re: Covid Vacs
Thats the thing to set the mind at rest John, have the test right away, these home tests are good. I know the virus would be a disaster to you, same with me, i am 80, overweight, asthmatic, so covid could easily send me on to the next stop, kt

Re: Covid Vacs
I have some idea of what you are going through Victoria, my youngest son was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus two years ago, fortunately caught early, but was an horrific operation, and came through it. You must be at your wits end not being able to visit, at least we were able to visit, just pre pandemic. best wishes to you, and of course a good outcome for your son, kt

Re: Covid Vacs
Crazy rules Lewis, what is to stop him catching a train to Belgium, Holland etc, and flying in from there ?, i would think thats what many are doing. Its just a bit of retaliation against the French i suspect. kt

My son travelled back from Poland yesterday, he had to have locator info and PCR test before boarding in Warsaw, then three checks on passport and paerwork to get thro Schipol. He is exempt from isolation due to his occupation but must submit two tests in ten days after landing.
