Had a good laugh today in 'Bunnings'

Buying some potting mix I noticed there were no veg seedlings in stock.
Spoke with the lady who runs the garden department, good knowlegable sort who I have known for some years.

They are being taken by the truck load as soon as they come in. Obviously by those who have never grown their own veg before.
Most saying, 'we will have our own fresh veg in a couple of weeks'

But the fact is for the simple cabbage under perfect conditions it will take about 16 weeks.
They have also taken most seed packets, pity as we ae coming into to cooler weather and most will not germinate.

My wife was today a lady from the part of Italy where the epicenter of the virus is now.
She was back there last year for the first time in some 20 years and was amazed at how they live there.
All crammed in apartment blocks, smoking still allowed in restaurants and bars, with heavy smokers about.
Figures today show that of the 4,000 plus who have died some 99% had pre existing medical conditions, heart, lungs and kidneys including a number in the 40 age range.

Then a female GP from UK came on our TV news. She had the virus and recovered in 3 days saying it was no worse than a mild dose of the Flu. She is returning to work this week.

It goes to support the theory of my GP who said the whole thing has been mismanaged by govs globally.

I may be called cynical but with all the restrictions now in place the gov has total control over how we now live, what we do and where we go.
G.Orwell may have been considered before his time but must be turning in his grave now at this.

Well John if all you think about is civil liberties - so be it. If it is so mild, then why are there so many fatalities. If you and your GP want your liberty then go ahead and ignore the controls but just before you do, just think about your family and other families and how you could be spreading this to them and the possible fatal consequences, all because you want your liberties. I am sick of all these people complaining about their civil liberties when it is obvious to all that if this virus is not controlled then the death toll worldwide will be phemonimal, possibly into the millions, and it will be all because some people thought it more important to be able to do what they want when they want, rather than follow sensible precautions to try and bring the virus under control - outrageous.

Chris #67, read again and you will see it is those with pre-existing medical conditions most at risk, not everyone.

There are many who should self isolate but will not, all I am stating is what I have seen and heard or been told.

There are many aspects of this I do not agree with but will be controlled by what the gov puts in place.
We are not being selfish, though the supermarket hoarders are, just stating the facts.

At no time in my posting have I mentioned civil liberties, or any thing like that Chris, but I agree there may be some who are.

Sorry John but your remarks about George Orwell indicated that you were not happy with the restrictions and were treating the virus not quite as seriously as you should. With regard to vulnerable people it states that vulnerable people are as listed below. Number 1 stands out immediately especially the words in the brackets :-

• aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)
• under 70 with an underlying health condition listed below (ie anyone instructed to get a flu jab as an adult each year on medical grounds):
  
  • chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema or bronchitis
  • chronic heart disease, such as heart failure
  • chronic kidney disease
  • chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis
  • chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), a learning disability or cerebral palsy
  • diabetes
  • problems with your spleen – for example, sickle cell disease or if you have had your spleen removed
  • a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy
  • being seriously overweight (a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above)
  
  
• those who are pregnant

Well one solitary voice that is saying that I refuse to be frightened for the rest of my life as seems to be the case with all the fecking negative news spewing out of the political and media outlets. We all know that the best way to control a population is to make them excrement scared all the time. All I know is that if I do not eat I do not crap and then die. So as long as I can do the reverse of those three simple rules I am okay.
