Re: No Toilet Rolls, Get yours free ?
Not far from where we live is a warehouse for one of the major supermarkets.
Full of dunny rolls, but they will not be sent to the supermarkets until next month.
Supplier says there is enough in the community for now!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is Runcimans of London still in existence ? they had the paper ships running to North America . Hard to imagine cargo pilferage in those days and even today. Although would be an easy enough job to cut the big rolls of newsprint down to size. JS

I pass a large paper mill on a daily basis at Prudhoe Northumberland. It has been there since the 70s and was originally built by Kimberly Clark, but is now Essity.
There is virtually a continuous stream of articulated trucks leaving that site, but I would not say any more than usual.

On the internet there is a video of an Asian shopkeeper flogging toilet rolls for £10 a roll !!
True, he was being filmed by a complaining customer who had used his shop for a number of years but was disgusted at the shop owner ripping off customers.

In September 2000 our local Refinery at Stanlow was blockaded by Farmers and the distribution of petrol and diesel was cut off completely. There were massive queues at all the petrol stations . A certain Asian Family owned two petrol stations near me and when they got a delivery of petrol they immediately upped the price of a litre by 50p and then £1. People still bought the petrol because they had to use their cars. However when the blockade ended and things returned to normal hardly anybody went to their petrol stations. They lasted about 6 weeks and had to close both stations and sell up. One site is now a block of flats the other a Car Wash. People around here showed just what they thought of people taking advantage of a shortage and ruined them. I should imagine that if this was tried around here these days and during these awful times, the same would happen to the shop owners concerned and they would be boycotted when all returns to normal. People have long memories and don't forget actions like that.

There's reports of a guy selling toilet rolls out of the back of his car here, best bet , take his car number plate after taking a photo, then post a copy to the income tax office, and then the DVLA to report his insurance not covering business trade, might not work, but might give him some extra paperwork to fill in, kt

There is always a funny side,
I asked in the supermarket
which aisle can I find the nuts.
Quick as a flash the assistant
replied with: In the toilet roll
section.

Re: No Toilet Rolls, Get yours free ?
Every Thursday I get an email from the local Organic shop with a list of what has come in, I went up this morning and they had four kinds of Spuds, cabbage, carrots etc, they also sell honey, tubs of it, homemade soap etc. I was the only one in the shop, around the corner cars were queuing in Woolworth's waiting for a parking space, huge car-park. Many of the local people don't buy in the shop, maybe a tiny bit dearer but all the veg are from their farm and as fresh as if from your own garden.
I'm waiting for them to start selling grass like we used to use ,when we went swimming in the river as kids.

Re: No Toilet Rolls, Get yours free ?
An easy answer to all this stock piling of all stores would be to bring back ration books. I can still remember our Co-Op number for a refund of monies spent at the end of a fixed term, was 8765 the discounts today would be better than the bank interest of much larger deposits JS.
