Re: Nhs
Well as seamen we all carried an ID card. The last time I think ID cards was mentioned in the UK was it not then said to be cost prohibitive. Anyone who drives a car has ID in there back pocket your driving licence. Another cost effective way of producing an ID card is when you renew your passport they enclose a credit card sized passport along with it similar to a driving licence. In France my ID is my card mutual, (Health Card)it has my mug shot on it and my social security number on it. Advantage of that is when you go to see a doctor it is the first thing he asks you for which goes straight into his computer. At least he knows who he is treating. If memory serves me right in the UK you make an appointment either by phone or at the reception desk, only other ID check is a touch screen when you arrive at the surgery and type in your name and date of birth, no visual recognition as such. Innocent people should have no objections to carrying an ID document.

Unless of course you're Admiral Lord Nelson and then it would all be a bit one-sided

The problem with what you say is your national insurance number does not have your photograph on it or your address. I cannot understand why people who object to having to carry a national type of ID card. It would certainly make it easier to pick up illegal immigrants.

Everyone should have their DNA on record. If your not on the National Data Base out you go. That's one modern advancement in technology I could agree with. JS
