Re: Nhs
In the last twenty something years of being at work I had a private medical insurance scheme which was very handy when my wife had a terminal cancer the only difference was there was more comfort and a better class of sandwich the medical care was exactly the same whether in or out of the NHS and just out of interest two years cancer care with mastectomy cost insurers just over £112,000 . She would go and get blood taken at 8:30 a.m. and the consultant would have the result before 9:30 a.m. where under the NHS I can get a blood test on Monday and my doctor will have the results back by Thursday . I do however have full online access to my medical records which saves an awful lot of time and it means I can go back and check previous blood tests immunizations and previous letters to and from the doctor as well as all the consultations I've had since about the year 2000 this makes it a very useful tool

#82... Rob can imagine the turmoil you went through. For the past 5 weeks have been waiting for the results of my partners sample off a lump. Found yesterday it was not the big C so the relief is profound. I don’t think I would have had your fortitude under similar circumstances. You do manage your affairs ( not the ones we joke on about) the same as others on site with a lot of courage and I echo Cappys sentiments. Regards JS

Re: Nhs
'####sometimes it appears we dont all sing from the same hymn sheet but in our village the NHS is exemplary ......a blood test in the morning has a result in the evening ......anything not right you are contacted in the evening ...i realise this is not the case in the big cities perhaps the reasons speak for themselves.....a year or so ago i had a growth in the inside of my mouth very small spotted by my dentist .....it grew at an alarming rate......on checking two weeks later i was reffered to a consultant and within a fortnight had it cut out .....sadly it came back and i had it taken out 3 times ..it has not appeared since ...i can only speak about a ist class service ...im sure others find it different but overall compared to our parents time it is a wonderful machine

Re: Nhs
Too many people and Politicians knock the NHS. usually for political ends. fortunately not everyone but the
majority of patients walk out of hospital.
I went to the Pharmacy yesterday and picked up a bag of medicines , For Free. imagine having to pay every time for that. I know we have paid NI for 50 years, but it still there for us.
and Always after being treated in Hospital I Always write a thank you letter to the Consultants secretary to Thank ALL the Staff involved in my treatment, She has said a few times, No one does that and it is greatly appreciated by every one when I do it.

Re: Nhs
The NHS is a great service , just needs a wee tweak here and there. Did it start to go a bit pear shaped though when in 60/70's the Governments of the day started to build these massive hospitals and then started closing down the local cottage hospitals? I suppose the thinking was it would be more efficient if things were all under the one roof so to speak. Not sure if it has actually worked out that way. As said though it has become a political football.

Re: Nhs
Thats pretty much what happened here on the Island. In 1975 we had three main hospitals , Ryde, Newport and East Cowes, in addition we had two cottage hospitals, for the treatment after operations etc, now we have one main hospital in Newport, which is going full taps. I don't have the figures, but judging by the increase in housing, the population has rocketed, kt
