Re: Thinking
Cannot remember which ship this was but we had been asking the Chief Steward for tinned fruit and he kept saying there was none on board. We knew he was lying because we had seen the stewards dumping the empty tins over the side. One night we were leaning on the rails having a smoke when I noticed the pantry porthole had been left half open. I climbed over and hanging on to the bottom rail got my legs, then the rest of my body through the port. In the pantry was a long low locker like a sideboard, inside I found it stocked up with tinned fruit. A bucket on a heaving line was lowered down and I filled it over and over with the tins cleaning out the locker. We shared our loot with the firemen, sitting on the poop feasting on pears, peaches and fruit salad, then dumping the evidence. Nothing was ever said about this.
Today I would not have the guts to go over the side and I would certainly not fit through a porthole.

It's perhaps that's the reason, and seafaring attitudes, that I've lived so long. Go figure... I dunno. Cheers, Eric

Sounds like a recipe for life Eric. Most evenings I sit on the sun deck and have a quiet drink. Perfect end to the day.

Lou, Always remember aboard the Windsor Castle, We all had the munchies after a few beers, We went on the search trough the cages in the cold rooms the cages where about 12 foot high and locked, Inside there was tables of food fit for a king it was a xmas cruise, Wasn't long before we climbed over the top, Wasn't as easy climbing back out.

Cold room in the main galley of the Windsor was never locked at night, great place for a feed coming back in the early hours. Never did find out why it was never locked, guess they thought no one would go there. Think it was mainly catering that knew about it.

Then may I suggest good sir you either get the lawn mower out or buy yourself a sheep. Just make sure there are no homesick Kiwi's about if you do though.

I never had the pleasure of seeing the best of Canada. Montreal, Quebec, St. Johns Newfoundland, Seven Islands, all freezing cold miserable places I was glad to see the back of.
