Ivan the point of the matter is that they are not apprenticeships.I've just checked across the country and I think Poundland are advertising apprenticeships in most of there stores.Do you need an apprenticeship to work in a Poundland store. The tilte is apprentice in retail. When I left school lots of girls with minimum education went to work in retail, all the big stores in Liverpool would take them on I suppose they were called a junior. This business now of giving kids in retail the title apprentice is a scam by the employer who I think get £1,500 grant from the government to take the person on,I think the going rate that they are paid is £97 or £107 per week upto 24 years of age far below the minmum wage.I notice Londi's are also in the market for apprentice's what qualifications do you need to stand behind a newsagents/mini market counter,15 minutes on how to use the till and you've cracked it.

jim i think you would find there is a lot more to learn than standing behind a till in the running of any businnes .......does the top man in any supermarket stand behind the till ........he starts there or in the warehouse ......if he is any good he may ...isay may get promotion.....have you any idea of how many children are leaving schoo lmwho cannot truly read and add 20 and 17......every ship has a captain and a galley boy the captain has been an apprentice the galley boy may end up a chef.......the country is not labour intensive any more.....brains are needed more than ever .....nobody is owed a living the world is a tough place....if you start at the top there is only one way to go......my suggestion is jim why dont you give a kid a apprenticeship.....it is not a duty from anyone to give out apprenticeships ......jobs can not be invented they only are needed when some guy starts to take a chance in business and with a modicum off succes need help.....the worlf owes noone a living .......a young man close to my family went to night school in joinery ....he now makes reception desks for hairdressing shops all over the country .....my old mate an ex seaman drives when he is too busy he has two youths now working for him .....but if he hadnt the balls to borrow money and try ...the other three would have no work.....thats business ....you cant invent a job out of thin air jim.....cappy

I don't see how you cant see the point, the shop or whatever business has a vacancy but rather than advertise it where they will have to pay the employee out of their profits they go down this road and are paid by the government and it is the apprentice who suffers the brunt of it.Cappy or anybody else would you let your 19 year old son/daughter take one of these position's for £102 pw where they could be working until 11pm and Sunday without overtime. My local shop run by Indian lads (great guys) just like a Londi they have about 4 local girls working shifts they're paid top rate not apprenticeship rates.I don't see how anybody can defend this scheme ,this is where avarice realy shows it's ugly head.
