Re: drinking wine now
Cappy, I agree with Jim & Vic. Your friend needs you. He'll have to be persuaded that you and the wine come as a package!
.......Just don't order a spritzer

Re: drinking wine now
Hi Cappy,
Red wine is good for you,
BUT always have three days a week alcohol free, or you will eventually damage your Liver and Pancreas and that is Fatal..
My mate Fred`s wife has just died four weeks, ago with Liver disease caused by drinking.
In Honolulu last year I was four days from DEATH and had two major operations on my liver and pancreas to save my life. I learned a lot in there. I am a much wiser man and will now live a lot longer.
My Son is a Consultant Hepatologist, he does Liver diseases and goes on TV quite a lot talking about it.
He says have three days a week, no Alcohol, it gives your liver time to heal itself. drinking everyday your liver does not stand a chance.and it will get you eventually.
Do NOT drink Vodka, it is a killer and should be banned.
My son loves Red Wine, the way he has it is, a drink of wine and then a drink of water, a drink of wine then a drink of water. and none on Tuesday wednesday and Thursday. Rest your Liver and Pancreas, you cannot have a Pancreatic transplant and a liver transplant is not all it is cracked up to be even if you are one of the fortunate ones.
Do not forget, It is Macho to drink wine instead of pints and Tots of whisky. Only a hard case would do it and Not care what people think.
I learned my lesson last year and I am still here,
I have hardly had anything to drink since in 15 months, I had half a bottle of Mount Gay Rum from Barbados on Saturday at a garden party I had for my birthday, the first spirit I have had since Honolulu, I was as rough as a badgers bum on Sunday, Was it worth it?? Yes. but I will not be repeating it for a while.
Enjoy the wine Cappy. and get your mate to the clinic for a Liver scan, if he is shaking he really has a severe life threatening problem and he will not be drinking with you for much longer.
Believe me, It is a Horrible Extremely Painful Death, just isnt worth it,
How Macho are you when you are Screaming??
.
Sorry to be morbid Cappy, But at this stage in life we have to be careful.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: drinking wine now
I still can go to the Pubs and have my Ginger Beers with the Lads and no one thinks any the worse of me!
Not that I am saying people should not have a Drink,it is good in Moderation for a lot,but for some I think our hard drinking days have taken the toll and the old Bodies wont stand up to it any longer!
Yes Capt like many I guess it takes a real scare to open ones Eyes to what the Drink can do!
But all that said its each man that will make his own mind up in the end!
Just keep well and enjoy what life has to offer!
Cheers

Re: drinking wine now
Brian you would'nt know what to believe one year something is bad for you the next year we are told the same thing is good for you.I thought I recently read somewhere that two glasses of red wine a day is good for you.Our friends in France and down the Medi with their diet and wine drinking dont suffer some of the disease's that we do.
Regards.

Re: drinking wine now
Possibly the saying of "One Mans meat is another Mans poision" may fit in here Jim!??
But the Med Diet is a lot different of that I know, and that I am sure plays a big part in ones lifespan!
But as said and I must agree that one day this is good and the next its not?
Oh dear what do we do? And who do we listen to!
Cheers

Re: drinking wine now
Hi Jim
Yes two glasses of wine a day is certainly good for you, but you should always have a couple of alcohol free days as well to let the liver recover itself. It is a long term thing and eventually would catch up with you. again some people are more resiliant than others.
As I said in the previous post, I had a good lesson off the Surgeons in Honolulu Hospital on what to drink and when to drink and again my lad, who is an expert with a world wide reputation in that field agreed with them, they knew each other. He enjoys a drink but does it responsibly. That is all ,only trying to give good advice, having been there.,
They used to call me , Alehouse Aspinall, for the stuff I used to sup, but not anymore. In the end every man is in charge of his own destiny.
Cheers
Brian.
