Re: drinking wine now
Cappy me and her indoors do half a case of wine a week, plus a couple of spirits so as long as your mate needs you look after him. Maybe he does not want to drink with you so he does not have to shout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: drinking wine now
Its these ex alcoholics who want to convert everyone else that are a pain. Cheers John S.
.
Hi John
There are No Ex Alcoholics. once alcoholic it is there for Life. There is No cure. only total abstention which is virtually impossible.
No one has supped ale or plonk or enjoyed it as much as me, I still enjoy it but now in much smaller quantities.
Good Social responsible drinking is good, it is when it gets into the alcoholic stage it is Serious and destroys the lives of not just the drinker but of ALL the family,
Last year my son told the parents of Two teenage girls they were going to die within six months, it was hard for him to do this, but a hell of a lot harder for the two families, they both died early this year, Their bodies could not have supported liver transplants. as the other organs had deteriorated too much to support it.
.
Now Anne`s son in law, is a screaming Alcoholic, A few years ago I got him into the helicopter Safety course at Fleetwood College, he then got contracts off oil companies to maintain oil rigs in the North Sea, went to Qatar on the Gas plant there and to Bonny Island, self employed making BIG BIG Money, He and ANNE`s daughter and two lovely children live in a big detached house in Cheshire and a lovely life style.
He has turned Alcoholic, on the Vodka, bottles hidden in the toilet cistern, in wardrobes buried in the garden , in the greenhouse. in his car boot under the spare wheel. The lives of Annes daughter and grandchildren are a mess, living in total misery, and going to lose everything they have ever worked for. She spent £15,000 for a month in Rehab, he came out worse than he went in. She has thrown him out of the house and will never let him in again,
He arrived at Manchester Airport last Friday drunk as a monkey, after flying from Aberdeen , his Sponser who he has been living with refused to pick him up, She got a phone call saying he was last seen walking towards Manchester. She went to find him on Friday evening and he was asleep on the road side. She then got his family to comeout and pick him up and he is now in some scruffy B&B in Manchester, a decent one would not take him in.
She is going to have to sell the beautiful home they had in Cheshire, after the mortgage has been paid off and split two ways, she will not be able to buy even the cheapest house. so she and the granchildren will end up in a rental away from their friends.;
This is affecting everyone, especially Anne and me. This clown who thought it was OK to drink to excess is now a shambles of a man, in danger of loosing everything, his extremely well paid job and his family and home. he will be Dead soon.
So this is Alcoholism. It is bloody heart breaking to see what it has done to a lovely successful family , all dragged down into the cess pit.
.
.
. Also in the same family,
Anne`s Neice is an Alcoholic, she is also on the Vodka,
She had a lovely family a nice home and a good job in fashion.
She turned alcoholic her husband divorced her, he could not stand the strees of trying to look after her, and she lost her job, she lost her home, Her brother, Anne`s` nephew spent £15,000 on Rehab.
She is then Dry for ten years, gets a good job and a Manager in a National Company, then she meets a man who said to her, If you have gone ten years without a drink it is now OK to have wine with dinner etc. Then she is back on the plonk, The new man clears off and she is alone again with just a bottle,. She has lost her good job,
Her Parents, Anne`s` sister, who is in her 80s remortgaged their home to pay for more sessions in Rehab to the tune of over £50,000, Two weeks ago she went to her daughters house and found her unconcious on the floor, She phones an Ambulance, she is on a stretcher screaming for more Vodka. She came home from Hospital last Thursday still the same as she went in.
The stress on the families is enormous. it is Destuctive, and extremely expensive. That one has had £65,000 spent on her in Rehab, and is No different than when she started.
.
So there is No such thing as an Ex Alcoholic.
.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: drinking wine now
There is a treatment for alcohol abuse by alcoholics, But not a Cure.
A pill that makes the person very sick if they have a taste of alcohol.
Unfortunately, the big problem, is making that person take the pill regularly as prescribed.
and most do not, as eventually they begin to live alone.
Cheers
Brian .

Yes Capt
That pill possibly not the same sort was used by my late Brother Greg, when he had an Alcohol problem, and boy did he get sick!
But it did help him, until later when he stopped and returned to the Bottle!
But then so many of us I bet did similar!?
Cheers

Re: drinking wine now
Many years ago when employing staff at the uni I made the mistake of employing an alcoholic, though at the time I did not know this. He presented well and when at work was a great worker, but when he had it bad he would go missing for a day or two at a time. Sadly in the end we gave him the DCM. It is very sad how some of them end up, for this guy he could have made something of himself had it not been for the grog. But I do believe it is a genetic fault thta causes it, think about all the grog you drank but you are not an alcholic!

Here is a case in point.Only recently it was mentioned on here that taking ibuprofen even for a short period damages your health in many ways. This is from yesterdays paper "Ibuprofen to put a hold on growing old".It says ibuprofen could stop people ageing prematurely. It warns not to rush out and by it because of its side effects and it is not a "fountain of youth".

Re: drinking wine now
The ones that I knew, one was a master and used to stand next to you sniffing at your breath to see if you had been drinking. A couple of others were always trying to convert one not to have a beer. I know if you are an alcohlic it is an illness and dare not imbibe. A lot of ex plonkys take the attitude there is none so pure as the purified. I feel sorry for some of them but see nothing wrong myself enjoying a drink socially. If however they have a problem with that, they dont have to watch anybody else and give out advice unless it is asked for. They do have an illness the same as drug users, and are dependent or were dependent on alcohol. I suppose it is in one genes some are more lucky than others. JS
